I switched around some hardware in my system (and did a Windows XP repair install) and when I restarted GBPVR, I got this error message:

"VMR9 is not available on this system. Please try a different renderer."

I didn't change the config, so what did I do to make VMR9 unavailable? I tried updating my nVidia driver, Hauppage PVR500 driver, reinstalling the .NET framework package, and upgrading GBPVR... all to no avail.

(Some background on what VMR9 is, would help as well)

For the time being I set the renderer to VMR7 and I don't see any appreciable difference, at least that I remember.

Thanks in advance....

VMR9 stands for Video Mixing Renderer version 9. It takes the output from the decoder and delivers it into the video card memory, which the video card then copies to the screeen.

Make sure gbpvr playback and DVD settings are configured to "default" renderer. If that doesn't fix it then you have either got a video card driver problem or lost/corrupted/un-registered the Windows renderer file (quartz.dll)

Hmmm.... I'm running a GF4 Ti4600 with the latest driver as of last week (81.98). Seems weird that VMR9 would suddenly become unavailable.

Is there any motivating reason to -need- VMR9? Are there differences that I should be noticing?

This windows install seems like it might be a little fubared, might have to give the machine an oil change soon. Thanks anyway.

I assume you're sitting directly at the machine when you get this error, not accessing it via some remote desktop software? I now this often results in VMR9 not being available.

I'll try the DX9 thing.

I was indeed accessing the machine via TridiaVNC... but I had been doing so for a long time before this hardware switch and Windows XP repair install and never had the problem.

I'll post back with my results... thx...

VNC won't be a problem, its only remote desktop that will mess things up... go for re-installing DX9.

actually, run dxdiag and make sure directdraw acceleration is enabled and all of that good stuff; it might have been switched off

Thanks, installing DX9.0c fixed my VMR9 issues. And man.... VMR9 renderer looks a world better than VMR7.
