Ok beware I'm a newbie.

Got comskip working, set it to post process not on the fly.

When I watch something in gbpvr thats recorded and it gets a commercial, it skips, but it skips too soon, ie I miss the last bit of the show, then it restarts during the last few commercials in the sequence.

Does it have an 'offset' setting or is this just something I'm having a problem with. Its about a minute out of sync.

Also when it 'skips' it comes back with no sound, but if I skip forwards 10 seconds then back I get the sound.

Me too, I have the same issue. I didn't RTFM or anything yet but if someone has a quick answer... Smile

I use comskipad to get over this with this in the ini file:
beginpadding=30
endpadding=-60
startLimit=100; if commerical in first 100 frames add begining to commercial

You may need to tweak the numbers to fine tune it more, but I'm happy with these numbers.

I'm still not sure if the numbers are referring to frames or some sort of time interval. 30 means start commercial break some amount later, and the -60 means resume program some amount later as well, but I think because each is at opposite ends of the commercial they need to have opposite signs.

Hope this helps...

Can one of you use this procedure
http://mk.kaashoek.com/comskip/viewtopic.php?t=34
to create some debugging files for me and mail them to me so I can have a look?

Erik,
I'm sure you're aware of this and I think all comskippad does is edit the file generated from comskip and adds the appropriate offsets by the numbers defined in beginpadding and endpadding to "move" the commercial to the correct location. I read something where the frames and times of a show are hard to sychronize all the time and maybe this plays into it as well somehow.
The offsets I use above work really well to the point that when the actual show goes into a commercial I see a black screen, a quick "freeze" on the black screen and then it returns to the show. This tells me comskip is working great except for the offsets which seem to be always fixed for the most part for me, although once in a while I do see small snippets (< 1 sec) of ends of commercials. Maybe this has something to do with the bitrate, etc. I use so that the offsets end up being what they are, and maybe for another set of recording parameters you would need some other values for comskippad.
The bottom line is comskip works really well, and since somskippad is easy to use I don't see it as a big deal. I do see you have options to shift the commericials in the comskip.ini file, but it seemed to me it offered only a single offset value, and it appears at least for me I need a beginning and ending commercial offset value which are different values.
As far as the audio problems as stated above I don't experience that. Thanks again for a great app.

Doh, I upgraded to the very latest version and have been tweaking my ini, if I notice it happening again I would be more than happy to.

So far messing around with the new version it's has been perfect, but it didn't happen all the time before. The cuts are better in this version, I was getting a frame or two of the comercial (oh no!) before the skip but now it's not.

Great program btw, thank you very much. We're suprised when a comercial does come on, it is very accurate. Smile

I was not sure about the size of the offset but reading this I assume its in the order of 1 second.
Not sure if sub does translate the comskip frame numbers into fractions of seconds. If not that could explain things
Sub, how do you do the rounding?

I believe comskippad only operates on the values in the comskip generated file by the amount indicated in the comskippad.ini file. I'm not too savy on the tech. side but the numbers in the comskip generated file are high, so I'm assuming those numbers refer to frames (?) So, for example if I get a comskip file that looks like this:

FILE PROCESSING COMPLETE
-------------------
12797 16592
24266 28757
39479 43968
49215 53876
53875 53906

comskippad will do this using the above values (30,-60) in the previous reply:

FILE PROCESSING COMPLETE
-------------------
12827 16652
24296 28817
39509 44028
49245 53936
53905 53966

These values were for a 1/2 hour show, so I think they are referring to frames (using 30 fps), therefore my values would say wait 1 sec before jumping and jump 2 seconds farther than before, or, offset the commercial 1 second later and make it 1 second longer.
