I am writing an article on GBPVR for TGdaily just wondering if I could have permission to use some of the pictures from the wiki. I'm not real sure who to ask specifically but reven and sub I though your permission would be important

Personnally, I dont mind you using any screenshots you can find. I couldnt tell you whether the plugin or skin developers have illegally swiped copyright images from anywhere else though. I can tell you that any screenshots of built screens and blue skin dont have this issue though.

Copyright doesnt work that way. As an example, if was to give away MP3 files (not charging a fee or asking for donations), I'm sure the record industry would not be happy if it was their copyright work.

The only images on the Contour skin that i didn't create myself are the GBPVR logos, weather icons (no idea who made those) and the little thumbnails of shows/networks that are in the VA Panel.

As for the copyright stuff I think I am okay since I am not charging a fee nor asking for donations.
The only words/logos I am using in the current theme H-MVP is:

Zap2it
TVGuide
Hauppauge!

Those are also Trademarks because they identify a product or service.

you can use the images from my plugins if you want, the default blue skin however uses images i found all over the internet, most likely from http://www.kde-look.org, you may have to hunt down permissions from the icon artists.

or you take no screenshots with the icons visible (probably easier)

I am fairly sure you're safe in using logos in your article even if they're copyrighted (Hauppuage logo, TV Guide, etc) under the fair use doctrine, since you're only using them for identification and information and not trying to deceive people or anything like that.. similar to how many sites like wikipedia include pictures and logos from everything; its informative so it falls under fair use.

but no, im not a lawyer and i expressly disclaim any responsibility.. haha gotta love their lingo Wink
