Show Recorded Part of the Show @ 40x Speed

We have a soap opera that records daily. Yesterday it appeared to record only 21:37 minutes of a 60 min show. However upon closer inspection, at 20:57 minutes the recording speeded up so that the last 40 minutes of the show was compressed into the last 1:40 seconds.

I am not sure if I have an on going problem, or if this is a one time thing.

My PVR is not dedicated and is actually in the "family PC". If my daughter is playing a CPU intensive video game, any program being recorded at the time will be greatly compressed and unwatchable. Of course I only have a 1.6 ghz CPU.
