XML data for recording

i have been able to read the xml data stored with the mpg recording for some recordings, but i am noticing that if the filename has a & i can not open the xml. is there a way around this?

i wrote an app to pull xml data from the mpg's and put it into a database.

so for example the show sons & daughters:
pvr\Sons & Daughters\Sons & Daughters_20060307_21002130.mpg

Notepad should open the XML for editing.
GBPVR uses "&" in the XML files.

Not sure I fully understand what you want to do but for reference the & character is (or should be) represented as & in XML, for example...

pvr\Sons & Daughters\Sons & Daughters_20060307_21002130.mpg

nope. notepad won't open the file:
pvr\Sons & Daughters\Sons & Daughters_20060307_21002130.mpg:metadata.xml

or
pvr\Sons & Daughters\Sons & Daughters_20060307_21002130.mpg:metadata.xml

Is a semicolon a valid filename character? In Unix/Linux it's used to separate 2 commands on the same line. So with that line of thinking, anything after the semicolon would be ignored by Notepad. No idea if that's the case in Windows though.

yeah the semicolon is fine. its the & (i think) that is causing the problems.
