I have an 8810 remote that has been lying around in the closet for awhile. Does anyone know if this remote can also be upgraded over the phone?

According to the One for all Website it can be upgrade via a call to customer service. I pretty sure this means it can be upgraded via phone or wav file.

You could always go the JP1 route if that doesn't work for you.

I found out that the 8810 / 8811 are indeed upgradeable, but the remote must be sent in to OFA to do this. I was originally trying to replace my Fusion HDTV, TV, and Receiver remotes with a single universal. OFA customer service did say that they had an upgrade for the Fusion HDTV. So I went out and bought an 8910, had it upgraded over the phone, and started testing the HDTV Remote functions.

It appears that the main selection pad keys (4 directional arrows and select) were not mapped. I then programmed these 5 keys using the learn function, but they do not work as well as the "pre-programmed" keys. Sometimes they miss a press, sometimes the UP function does a DOWN, etc.

tjb ... what's your status with the 8910? I just grabbed one along with a JP1 cable and did a bit more tailoring from the available downloads to get something that is works well with MediaMVP/gbpvr (a lot of the "standard" downloads out there seem to support only a subset of the Hauppauge remote). If you don't want to go the JP1 route, I believe that the IR program (see JP1 Remotes board) is also capable of generating a wav file that can be "played back" just like OFA does it. This might give you better response than just going with "learned keys".

I tried both zip files earlier in the thread and had problems with both. I got an error the the zip file was corrupted. Can someone please post (or repost) an audio file to upgrade the 8910 (please please please).... I called for the upgrade, but I only have a cell phone - no landline. The upgrade didn't work over a cell phone. I was told the only way to get the upgrade was to go somewhere with a land line.

Thanks, Merlynn

Are you downloading with IE? Try Firefox or Opera. IE currupt's small ZIP files.

Thanks for tip. IE was the problem. The zip files worked fine with Firefox.

It's crazy the amount of stuff I'm learning getting this up and running.

Htewam,

Sorry for the late reply - just got back from vacation, so I have not had much time to play with the 8910 lately. As I mentioned in my last post, I was able to get the 8910 programmed over the phone for the Fusion remote, but a lot of the buttons were not mapped (including the directional pad). Using the learn function to program these keys does not work as well as I would have liked. Would JP1 help me in this respect? I guess I would have to find the codes that DVICO used for these buttons in order to program it with the JP1 cable? Can you tell me where you got your cable, and how much it cost? I think I may also try to go this route. Thanks for your help.

Terry
