MVP Boot Load

I noticed an odd thing today, when the power went out here.
I have 3 MVPs connected to my GBPVR Server.

A few hours after the power came back up and I went to look at them all my MVPs where stuck on loading application. No matter how many times I restarted any Single MVP or the GVPVR server they would never get past the Loading Application screen.

It didn't load until after I went around and unplugged every single MVP server, restarted the GBPVR server and started the MVPs up one at a time.

Is there any known issues with multiple MVPs boot loading at the same time?

I plan on testing more to see if this occurance is a fluke or common.

I'm not aware of any issues with loading GB-PVR on multiple MVPs at the same time, but I've only got one MVP so its not a configuration I test.

I have the same problem with 2 MVP's. If they are both on the net during a gbpvr restart, both will freeze at application loading. I do not consider this a major inconvenience in my 1 story house though. I simply unplug 1 until the other loads, then plug in the other and all is well. Also, I never tested it with just the stock hauppage mvp server, so I couldnt say if its an MVP issue or the GBPVR servers.

3 MVPs here, no issues. I can restart the recording service and all three MVPs come back up at the same time without a problem. Haven't had the power go out in quite a while so I don't know if that would make a difference. The only thing I can think of in a power outage situation is that maybe the MVPs are coming up before the DHCP server is ready to issue them IP addresses (so they use their defaults)??

I have no problem restarting the recording service with my 2 MVPs, at least not since I started using the dongle.bin that comes with gbpvr. I did have trouble with the latest dongle.bin that comes from Hauppauge's website.

I can't speak for a power outage, but I think AOSandman has a good theory.

On a related note, isn't it necessary to unplug the power to the MVP (and then plug it back in) in order to get it to load the dongle.bin?

Yes, that's correct and a good point. Restarting the recording service won't make the MVPs all try to re-load dongle.bin, but losing power will. Perhaps there is a problem with more than one MVP trying to get dongle.bin at the same time.

I have this issue myself and I only have one MVP. If the power is removed from the MVP, which makes it need to reload (not simply using the power button -- that doesn't do the same thing -- I'm talking a power source removal) GBPVR doesn't get it bootstrapped. If I enable the Hauppauge service (latest download) it works fine. I am using wireless between MVP and GBPVR box.

I have 4 MVPs and I can confirm that if the power goes out they (usually) will not reconnect unless I power them all down and connect them one at a time.

I suspect that this is because the GB-PVR service instances are not tied to a specific MAC address and when multiple MVPs are trying to establish a connection they get "crossed" such that the instance that started the communication with a particular MVP is not necessarily the one that is trying to make the final connection.

This has a very negative impact on the WAF (wife acceptance factor) -- so much so that I'm considering getting a small UPS for each MVP.

Now, if Sub could modify the MVP support to allow specification of a MAC address for each service instance ...

I believe the problem you're talking about here is related to a dhcp server problem... you must have one on your network. Enabled the Hauppauge services works for you because among other things, the service serves as a dhcp server to the MVP, giving it an IP address.
