I'm using the silver hauppauge remote with gbpvr. It works fine but after a few hours the remote gets slow and unresponsive. I have to hold the buttons down for a while to get it to work. If I reboot the system or reset the ir service it works fine again. Any ideas what would cause this?

I bought my Hauppauge pvr150 last week and have it running great with thanks to GB-PVR. My remote gets "slow" too. I hate the remote....hate it. I don't like the way it works, the way it feels, the way it looks. It's a cheap hunk of junk and I would love to get my hughes tivo remote to work with GB-PVR, but have yet to figure how...if it is possible. You would have thought Hauppauge would have made it easier to use some kind of universal remote so we could throw away their junkie remote.
Anywho....enough venting from me. I would love to hear some thoughts on the remote slowing down after time too.

It works perfectly well with my philips universal remote, so it's not at all impossible to get it to work with that. Regarding your Tivo remote, you should be able to get it to work with gbpvr (or any other software) if you get the USB-UIRT and a copy of Girder. A bit pricy, though, but if you really want it to work it might be worth it to you.

I manged to get the Hauppauge remote to work with Girder before I realised that gbpvr supported the remote directly! But then I was able to use a universal remote to learn the codes from the Hauppauge remote so I can now use one remote to control the TV, switch to the PC and fire up gbpvr and navigate the menus including playing shows. The Hauppauge remote is now consigned to a drawer! In retrospect with Girder, you don't need the Hauppauge remote since gbpvr can be controlled via the keyboard and Girder allows you to trigger any key sequences with a remote control

Try changing the priority of IR32.EXE to "Above Normal" or "High" via Task Manager. That usually clears up sluggish remote problems.

FWIW, the Hauppauge remote client can be modified to support virtually any RC5-compatible remote, provided that you know which codes it uses.

Just for the sake of a reality check, is the response just fine if you use the keyboard when the remote slows down?

I'm assuming a setup where you have a system hooked to the tv (and the sensor hooked to it), and not a mvp setup.

Yes the remote is all that is affected. I don't have a keyboard hooked up since its in my entertainment center but I have a mouse and it still works OK when the remote slows down.

I will try the suggestion on upping the process priority.

I got a learning remote and used it to learn the hauppauge codes. It is effected the same way as the original.

I tried using girder to run the remote but it seemed sluggish compared to the native gbpvr remote so I now only use girder to control the cable box via the serial port.

I made may own IR receiver and am using Winlirc and Girder to make just about any remote work with GB-PVR. Now I can throw away that crappy, ugly, good for nothing, buggy, slow Hauppauge remote. Did I say I hate the Hauppauge remote  SO if you want your remote to work better….then get rid of the uncomfortable, cheap silver Hauppauge remote.

setting the ir.exe process priority to above normal seems to have helped allot. If there a way to set it to always run with above normal priority when it starts?

Goolge for Process.exe. It's a fee dos app. It can set priorities for you. Then just make a bat file, and add that to your startup folder. This should do it:

process -p ir.exe ABoveNormal
