The sound on my new A180 card is not loud at all - I can hardly hear it at regular volume and I can't turn it up as loud as I'd like. I don't know what causes it, how can I get it louder? thanks

This may not be causing this for you, but try deleting the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Devnz\LastVolume registry setting. This works around a known bug in the current release where the user could have turned the volume down, but had no way to turn it back up.

Thanks for the fast reply!

Actually I already used that to fix another problem I had (volume seemed "permanently" muted.) However the audio output on the card seems to always be low but everything else works fine. Any other ideas?

It probably just the level the broadcaster has used in the digital transmission. There is no built stuff in GB-PVR that'll help you with this. Something like the ffdshow audio filter may help you equalize levels, but I've not tried it myself.

I have the problem with low volume from my tuner. I have installed ffdshow selected it as the audio decoder, and enabled post processing. However, ffdshow is not working with Live TV, though it does work with other media (music, etc.). Can anyone explain this to me, and suggest a way to increase my tuner volume? I don't necessarily need it for other media.
Thank you!

I'd love to hear of a way to increase A180 volume level, but I think sub is right about that being set at the encoding step. There are NO driver controls to configure this.

My real problem has more to do with equalizing volume between my A180 digital and PVR-500 analog sources. Switching from digital to analog blows my eardrums away until I can change volume.

I found the Hauppauge registry tweaks and slightly decreased the PVR-500 volume, but don't want to drop it to the same level as the A180 because the signal/noise ratio seems to decrease too much.

I'd sure like to boost the A180 or non-destructively drop the PVR-500 apparent volume.

Not sure if this will help you but there is an article on The Green Button that has some registry tweaks that might help

Thanks. Those are specific to ATI cards. I already know how to drop volume via registry for my Hauppauge analog tuner.

Maybe I'll go looking through the registry entries for my AverTV A180 card to see if there's anything obvious for volume.

For those who input sound through the sound card, try connecting the audio to the mic input. Usually there is an option to boost the signal for that input. I use a +20dB boost for mine, and then need to turn the mic volume way down on the mixer.

um this is not such a good idea, the mic input usually has a powered pin, and is not stereo. you could be damaging your tuner card.

here look at this
