How does gbpvr detect identical recordings. I'm assuming the option in config.exe to "not allow duplicate recordings" means that I can set it to season-record for a show and it will only record one instance of each episode, correct? If so, how does it tell that.......I usually remove the recorded shows and place them on another computer once a week, will this mess with that setting? Also, if it detects a duplicate...does it just not add it to pending recordings, or does it show it there but simply not record it?

This duplicates functionality relies on the show identifier supplied by zap2it. Its pretty simple really. Each time the EPG is updated, it'll look for shows with the same name as the season recordings, and if it finds a match, it'll schedule a recording....unless there is an existing pending or completed recording with the same show identifier.

So by removing completed recordings from my box, I am pretty much ruining the functionality of this feature...correct?

Hi,

I was wondering: I know from reading the forums that the duplicate feature relies on the programme ID. Apparently that's only with zaip2it or something like that. I'm in Ireland and I'm using the UK Radio Times grabber. This works fine. But duplicates do not get filtered out because GBPVR and XRecord are looking for a unique program ID.

There is no unique program ID in the radio times listing, but could the recording system not use the Sub Title as a way to determine if an episode is unique or not? The radio times seem to be very good at putting the sub title in.

Obviously it would be important only to block non blank ones in case the sub title is not supplied.

So the algorithm would be:

if it has a sub title then
if it is a unique title then
schedule it
else
discard it
endif
else
schedule it
endif

I plan on developing some plugins myself when I get time. I think GBPVR is great, and once I've used it a bit more and got to understand it better, and once I have some ideas about things I'd like to see, I'll probably give it a go. But I'm some way off that. So I was wondering if you would be able to add this into GBPVR and XRecord, Sub and KingArgyle if you get a chance please?

Thanks,
Eoghan.

Subtitle cant be relied upon for this processing. Its often just a generic sentence about the show.

Thanks for the response sub.

Well, could it be an option and then you could select it on a show by show basis. For example, I know certain shows that do use the sub title. So i would enable it for those ones at the time of setting up the recording. For those that don't, I won't enable it. If I happen to miss a show because I set it to ignore duplicates, and that show doesn't have a sub title, then that's my tough.

This is just so my hard disk space doesn't get eaten up with duplicates. Also if it is recording a duplicate unnecessarilly, then I would be perhaps missing out on recording something else instead that I would prefer.

Eoghan.
