I've converted to 95.15 today and decided to try Timeshift mode again. I've tried it on and off with each release and had the same problem with every one and it continues with 95.15.

When timeshift is started there is a noticable pause of a few frames in the video (the audio is fine) about every 30 seconds regular as clockwork. I've tried everything I can think of including most recently changing the logging level from Debug to Error --- I had thought that perhaps the logging was causing this because in Debug mode there is an entry written to the RecordingService log every 30 seconds. I changed the logging and the problem is still there.

I love GBPVR but this is really irritating me, one of the prime reasons for doing this was to get the timeshift capability.

I thought we'd long since decided that you and timeshift are just incompatible for some unknown reason?

Well "incompatible" isn't really an acceptable situation now is it :-)

As a software developer, it goes against the grain to say "well I don't know what it is but let's just forget about it" :-)

Honestly, I dont really know what to say. We've looked at this several times in the past. There was no obvious cause for the problem. It doesnt really seem to be affecting other people.

You'd probably find that if you tried it on a different machine you wouldnt have the problem.

Zip and attach your logs covering a 10 minute period and I'll take another look.

Well that may very well be. But the one common factor in the previous incidents and in this one is that every 30 seconds the CPU utilization of GBPVRRecordingService.exe leaps from 0-to-1 % up to 60-to-80% and it coincides precisely with the video freeze. I'll be the first to admit that it might be unique to me but I know nothing about the recording service so it is impossible for me to debug it except by building a new PC --- not a very practical solution Smile

What do you want me to do?

You bring your PC round to my house so I can take a closer look.

How about next Friday? I'll pop 'round if you can get the taxi fare from Miami :-)

Does it happen on the first channel that you start the timeshift on, or only after you surf the channels a bit? I had a bug with channel hopping + timeshift, but haven't had a chance to test the latest version to see fi it got solved
It never happened on the first channel I was watching though, only when I went away from a channel, and then came back to it within a couple minutes

I had a similar problem with timeshift. I had my system set up in the client server setup as descibed elsewhere in the forums. It turned out that the video buffer being sent to \\PVR\buffer caused a delay every 15 to 30 seconds. Once I set it back to C:\buffer, all was well.
