The "Use FFDShow" option in the playback config screen was removed in recent releases as Sub stated that FFDshow inserts itself automatically. Can I just clarify a couple of things (I am not using a MVP):

1. Is the line <UseFFDSHOW>false</UseFFDSHOW> in Config.xml any use now?

2. Should FFDshow video postprocessing work with MPEG2 files? It works fine with AVIs, whether it is doing to decoding as well or not. I'm not using FFDshow to decode MPEG2 (codec is disabled) and the FFDshow audio side works fine. I've tried various MPEG2 decoders (DScaler, Nvidia, Cyberlink).
thanks

Yes, it will use it if set to true. You shouldnt have to do this though.

Yes, it should work with MPEG2 files. I dont have ffdshow installed myself, so I cant tell you exactly what you need to do.

Actually, if someone that is fluent in ffdshow could post a guide (or a link to any existing guides) on how to set it up properly, I would be VERY happy. I've tried using it for things like getting a better image, non-linear resizing 4:3 images to 16:9 and some other stuff, but I've always failed miserably when it comes to actually making it work with MPEG2 files from gbpvr.

I did a quick test, too, and whatever I do I can't seem to make anything make any difference at all, when it comes to playback. Everything looks as it always has, no matter what settings I use. It seems like it is not being used.
I'm not always right

To see if FFDshow is being used either setup the OSD tab or run GB-PVR in a Window and see if the icons appear in the icon taskbar. Whether it has any effect is a different matter - for me it can make AVIs look a lot better (e.g. luminance post processing makes blacks look blacker etc.)....I just would like to do this for MPEGs as well.

Not working for me either. I've tried everything I can think of. No OSD either.

I'm trying to figure out if the ffdshow.ax file (and all codec .dll files) needs to be in a certain directory (like devnz\gbpvr), or does GB-PVR read the DirectShow filter location from the registry or a COM registration?

I just installed ffdshow now on my new development machine to check this out.

Even experimenting in GraphEdit, I can see the newer versions of ffdshow are behaving a little different than they used to, but I was able to get to work with GB-PVR by doing the following:

1) set <UseFFDSHOW>true</UseFFDSHOW> in config.xml
2) set video decoder to 'system default' in config app.
3) enable MPEG2 decoding in ffdshow video decoder settings. (see below)

I'm sure there are other ways to get it to work using the raw filter, but you'll fiddle around a bit to find the exact settings.

Is this not though using FFDShow as a MPEG2 decoder, which I believe it is not great at? I thought the benefit of FFDShow was for postprocessing - which as I said works fine for AVIs but I cannot get to work for MPEG2.
Can somebody clarify or correct me?

Yes, thats what I was indicating. I know this wasnt the original intention. Keep fiddling though, I'm sure its possible to get it working with the raw filter.

If you dont ever managed work it out, I've added it to my list of things to look at when I've got some spare time.
