I installed GBPVR last week and it seems to work fine Smile
Then... I decided to record some old 3 hr tapes from a VCR (rf output from VCR into Hauppauge PVR USB) and it again worked - but - the resulting file only contained the first hour of the programme. Like this -
TV-1-2120051208_1249.mpg 2,207,888 KB.
I tried again and kept an eye on it and it appears that a new file is created each hour but when the recording is halted the subsequent files get deleted, leaving only the first one (in the 'temporary' TV directory)
I've done the usual forum browsing and googling without any luck.
I haven't included full details and log files here as I'm hoping there is an obvious answer someone can point me to.
Thanks.

Is this on a FAT32 hard drive, or NTFS?
You can never have enough tuners!
Pentium Quad / 4Gb Dual Channel RAM / XPSP3 / 2 x PVR-500, PVR-250 / GB-PVR

GB-PVR isnt really the best tool for this type of task. You should just use the WinTV software which is much better suited to this.

You could schedule a manual recording of the required length if you insist on doing it in GB-PVR, but you cant use the timeshift feature which is intended for live tv. Normally the timeshift feature changes files at the end of each show. If you dont have EPG listings for the channel in question, it assumes you have shows which are an hour long.

Thanks for the quick replies.
It's an NTFS drive.
As you say, I could just use the WinTV app, but it would be nice to do it within GBPVR. What was freaking me out was that you can see the files being created and saved (in Explorer) but then, before your very eyes, they disappear again! It doesn't happen insantaneously either - I loaded the second hour/file in WMP and confirmed it was ok, then closed it, and when I looked up, it was gone. (I was planning to use virtualdub to recombine the files but I never got the chance).

Yes, thats normal. It deletes these temporary timeshift files after its finished with them. Otherwise your hard disk would fill up pretty quick when watching tv.

I was about to post about this exact issue. I know you say that your software is not designed for it, but there isn't really any better software for the Theater 550 to do such a thing.

I think an option to not split the files after an hour and to not delete them would be great.

I've done this in a similar way to sub describes above. I created a capture source specifying my PVR350 using S-Video in. I created one channel manually set for the UHF 'broadcast' channel of my VCR then scheduled a manual recording.

sub - are you saying that even doing it this way, if the source has no EPG, the manual recording will still get cut after one hour? Or does the manual recording time override this? The one time I did it, the recording was only 20 mins so the 1 hour cut-off wouldn't have applied to me.

Cheers,
Brian

Manual recording will get the whole thing. Its only a problem if you're trying to use the live tv timeshift feature to dub tapes (or other non EPG listed recordings).

Thanks for clarifying. I really don't like WinTV2000 so would like to avoid having it on my machine if at all possible. Not that I intend to do any VCR transfers in the near future but one of these days...

It is something I'll probably improve in GB-PVR in the future, but its not really important to me so it's way way down the list.
