I am using a VCR connected to the composite input of my hauppauge capture card to copy video tape material to hard drive and eventually to DVD. Is there a way to start recording with using the tedious manual record feature which requires a start time and end time input? I would ideally like to be able to press one button to start the recording and maybe increment record time by pressing again to increase say by 15 or 30 min increments. The file name could be based on date and time.

This application is not intended to do what you want to, so there is no easy way to accomplish this. You'd probably be better off with win2000 for this task.

Well why is it not intended to do this? Both GBPVR and Win2000 are PVR applications and VCRs have had a similar feature for years. It would also be useful for situations where you want to record programs that are not in the epg. ie local features, breaking news and sports programs that commonly run beyond their alloted time slot.

Stefan is just telling it like it is. You'll find it much easier to dub video tapes using something like the WinTV software. GB-PVR just wasnt designed for this task. I do intend to improve it's abilities in this area, but its not particularly important to me, so its way way down the bottom of the priority list.

Well, I guess I understand why facilitating dubing is not high on the priority list but I would think having some way of starting a recording "on-the-fly" for the reasons sighted earlier would be quite desirable. Already this month I have wanted to start a recording of a program not in the epg (our former state governor's funeral was being aired and I wanted to record it) By the time I went to the manual recording menu, set the times, and waited for the nearest 10 min to roll around for the recording to start, I had missed a fair amount of the program. Is this not an issue for other GBPVR users??

Do you realize you can type in any time you want with the number keys? Its not limited to the 10 minute blocks you get with the left and right keys. Also, if you want the recording to start 'now', you can just press the left arrow once when you highlight start time (since it'll put the start time in the past).
