I'm just going through getting GB-PVR to start as a startup item with auto-login, and it occurred to me that it would make more sense if GB-PVR could start as a system service so it didn't even need a user login. I haven't really had time to look at the architecture of the app, but am willing to help out if need be. I know the project isn't open source, but who knows what will happen down the road.

The recording service already runs as a service.

The user interface is only started when the user needs to interact with it, so no real need to make this a service.

I guess I'm thinking of the specific case of the PVR-350 using it's TV out. In that case, GBPVR isn't creating a user interface that's displayed to Windows (or shouldn't need to) so it wouldn't necessarily need a login session.

As a bit of a background.. I work at a company where we develop Grid solutions - part of that solution is a runtime agent that runs on the computers in the grid. Having to have the computers where the agent runs logged in is a real pain in the ass, so we've set things up so that our agent runs as a service with all of the privileges it needs.

The more I think about this, the more I see why a login session is needed, though, especially with the various "other" things that plugins may want to run or do. Consider the enhancement request dropped.

Cheers,
Andrew

Yeah, this is the one setup I was aware of that can benefit from running as a service. Unfortunately I've long since stopped developing features for the PVR350 (or supporting), so you'll need to look for alternatives to achieve this. Luckily, there is numerous utilities you can download that let you run any old exe as a service. SrvAny is a pretty common one.
