iTunes network shares

I run my music off of my linux file server box (seperate from my PVR system) via mt-daapd. Generally this is more convenient than having to mount network drives ot whatnot...

So could integrated functionality and/or a plugin be written to scan the local network for daapd servers? (and be able to play music from them)

I'm not much of a code shark (especially on the Windows side), otherwise I'd offer to write the plugin myself.

I have my music and vids on my Linux server as well. I use SaMBa to share my files currently to the MVP and the GBPVR server as well. I'm not heard of that daapd, I'll have to look into that one.

I also, at this point, access video and music files on my network via Samba. It's not that samba is hard to do, but using the daapd network share service is much easier. I have multiple machines on my network using daapd/iTunes shares and it'd be cool to be able to play music from all/any of them.

(if you run gentoo the ebuild is mt-daapd for the linux server)
