This may be more of a feature request than a problem.

Wednesday night I was recording invasion and when I went to look at the recordings later that night I noticed I had TWO invasions recorded. One went from the normal 10pm - 11pm, the other went from 10:01pm to 11pm. I figure this was caused by a change in the program guide information at some time before recording, probably due to one of those stupid network overrun tricks. I remember seeing this happen once before as well.

The problem is that because of the second invasion I missed the end padding on another program and so missed the very end. Yes I checked and because of the way back to back recordings use two tuners I had 6 things overlapping at 10pm.

I don't have any problem with the current back to back recording system, I prefer it since I get the padding (especially end padding) that sometimes can be necessary. The problem was the extra invasion. Maybe in the code that schedules recordings when a new epg update occurs there could be a check for the exact same time and channel and program? Then just keep the larger of the two, the 10-11 version in this case.

Like I said above I don't know if this is a problem or a feature request. Either way I really love the program and am so happy to have a stable, functional replacement for my aging vcr's.

PS. Sub: I coulnd't talk you into bumping the number of recorders up to eight (of one kind, analog in my case) could I? I have one more slot that is just going to waste. Big Grin

Thats already what it does, but in this case it wasnt the exact same time.

If you had the 'complete EPG reload' option enabled, then this should handle this situation automatically for you.

You can have as many tuners as you like, but I think the box that allows you set the device# only has 1 - 6 listed, so its artifically limited to 6 devices of any one type. I'll bump it up for the next release.

Sorry then it is a bug since I do have the "complete EPG reload" option enabled.

If it will help I will go through the logs Saturday afternoon and see if I can find the pertinent spots and upload them.

Also, I understand that is is difficult to compare things that are almost identical but in this the majority were identical, channel, date, program listing, just time was slightly different but totally overlapping. As far as I can see there is no way to record the same exact program twice. A manual recording would be coded differently it seems. So maybe if the same program (channel, listing info, date) is listed twice more careful checks could be done for overlap of the time.

Of course I can see how this could get very nasty, especially when dealing with padding, and since it is a rather rare case I would not worry about it very much even if it was my code. Just one of the things to add to the old todo list for some boring evening.

PS. Thanks for the bump on the number of tuners for the next version.

A shot in the dark but...do you have different EPG sources for different tuners? Or possibly one grabber that is pulling the same channel information from two different web sources?

Nope, currently all six tuners use the same zap2it account / lineup. Eventually one will be hooked to the cable box for premium channels and us a different account / lineup.

This may or may not be linked. I have my OTA ATSC channels and cable coming into my HVR-1600. I ran a search in the guide for a show and told it to record the entire season. Low and behold it's going to try and record from both analog and ATSC channel. I'm assuming that's b/c the channels are essentially the same, but their listed under channels as ATSC channel #-441while the analog is 14. However, I want the HD version obviously. :-) Any suggestions on how to fix this? It seems like the guide is messing up some how. Likewise... how do you change the name of a channel? I thought that might fix it. In the guide that would help me sort through what's atsc and what's not.

I'm having just the opposite thing happen. I have an HVR-1600 and I have both the ATSC and analog tuners configured (both using the same zip2it account). I have some conflicts that could be resolved by using ATSC for one and analog for the other. Instead, it's just recording one.

Well the beauty of it all is that I've reconfigured some of the stuff (TS, deinterlacing, etc), and it's able to record both with good fidelity. The stupid part is the channels which are linked but not numerically. For instance, channel 14 is fox on cable, but 44.1 (broadcasted on the physical channel of 57) for ATSC. This last time the recordings were clear and very impressive. I went back and deleted all of my recurring recordings I had already established and ran another search. I set up the particular channel I wanted to record. Then, I went into conflicts and delted the conflict. It seemed to work, but still somewhat cumbersome considering I told it only to record the information (season of a specific show) on that particular channel. I dunno. I'm no expert. I've only been using Gb-pvr for a little over a month now. I love it, but there is so much to learn and figure out- which is difficult at times.
