EDIT:
oops, not added, just plain add, lol

...and by remotley I don't mean by a remote Wink , but that I want to use RDP(RemoteDesktop) to connect to it, start GBPVR and make a recording that starts at a given time.

This just happened to me, now when I'm at work, so I tried this, but it complained something about that my system didn't have VMR9 installed or whatever, but I do, since I did a recording just last night.
I had to call wifey to fix this and that worked fine

I wonder if this is possible by some other program, or just to edit some file or something, hence making this possbile.

I know I should plan a little better :p but since I'm not that kind of a person, I always miss things Sad

Hope for a possitive answer Big Grin

and if you _really_ want to control gbpvr directly, i would suggest you use something like realvnc or tightvnc (realvnc.com, tightvnc.com).
both are free and work well.
AMD 1600mHz, 512 M RAM, 20+160 GB drive, Hauppauge PVR-350 + PVR-150 + PVR-150MCE, Win XP Pro SP3, using software decoding.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

These VNC's i know, but i think they kinda suck :p
RDP is way better eventho its from Microsoft :p

but i wonder if the VNC is any better than RDP to get full 32bit coloring and higher resolutions. I use VNC at work for some machines, but they cant handle that.

One last time, fast questions...

Doesn't this require a web server or is the GBPVR acting like one?
And if so, how secure is it? maybe SSL?
Just user and password protected?

//End Of Query :p

VNC is better in this case as it doesn't (unless you tell it to) try to converge video driver data (IE using the local vid info on the remote machine). I can't explain it better than that but RDP exports portions of the remote driver and combines them to the local driver so that the frame grabs are more effecient.

VNC does things differently and is more of a pass through type technology. Hence you can do a little more when you have a crappy vid card on the local machine and are remoting into your high end gear that runs GB.

I don't like VNC much either but I use it for the HTPC for two reasons. One is because of the above, and two because with RDP you force your machine to prompt for password to login locally. I want that machine to reboot and come right back to GB PVR not a login screen. Plus if you RDP in (unless you have TS licences) your machine gets locked (so wifey sitting at home watching TV suddenly looses TV when you login to schedule a recording and gets a login prompt).

I use RDP for EVERYTHING else...

Web Admin is the best thing for remote scheduling though. It runs its own webserver. Not sure how secure it is but it runs on any port you want and you could definately SSL or tunnel through SSH to make it more secure. Basic username/password auth.
