I have a media MVP and have got it working pretty well with GBPVR using advice and suggestions from these forums. However there is one problem I haven't been able to resolve, where when transcoding Divx/xvid videos using ffmpeg and streaming them to the MVP, the MVP will stop playing about 5 - 10 seconds before the end of the file. This is not generally a problem when the file has the credits included but most tv shows downloaded from the net dont include the credits so it cuts off the end of the show.

Its not a huge problem more of an annoyance and I know 5 - 10 seconds does n't sound like much but its sometimes hard to tell if it is actually the end of the program or if the transcoding has stopped for whatever reason (happens very occasionally).

Is there any way to tell ffmpeg to pad the end of the file with a few seconds of blank video so it will continue streaming past the end of the file? Will reducing or decreasing the MVP Transcode pre-play delay help any?

I'm running version 0.96.12 of GBPVR and I'm not using the gbpvr.bin.

All help and suggestions are much appreciated.

Cheers

I get this problem too but its not as severe as 5-10 seconds - I think its only chopping off 2-3 seconds but you're right, it can be bad with episodes of 24 if the last couple of seconds is missing.

Same problem here too and I what you mean about 24! The same goes for lost, prisonbreak, etc.

Is there a patch or anything for this.

My guess is that the delay used for the transcoding is the root of the bug. i.e. the program stops showing video at the wrong side of the delay time. I will try minimising the delay on the next show I watch and post feedback here if it'll help.

Ok I tried reducing the MVP Transcode delay to 2000 (I think this is as low as it will go) but the show still stopped at exactly the same place.

Anybody got any other suggestions? this is very annoying.

Maybe you could check on the FFMPEG options, to see if you could add a few secs of black (or whatever) to the end of the transcoding.

Happens here too but I just live with it. It probably does it with every mpg but you don't notice on stuff you record because you'll have overrun on the recording.

Have you actually tested that it doesn't do it with anything else? I haven't but I don't see how the Divx encoded bit should be any different because ffmpeg is creating an mpeg2 file and the MVP is playing that back.

What happens if you try mvprecode first to create an MPEG2 file, do you find the same?

Yeah my initial impression of it being 5 - 10 secs cut off was a little over estimated it is more like 2 or 3 seconds. I have some divx files I've converted with mvprecode so I'll see if it does it on those and post the results. I had a look through the ffmpeg command line switches a while ago but couldnt see anything for padding the end of a file but its probably worth another look.

Also while where on the subject some divx files downloaded from the net just refuse to play while others are fine. They will usually play for a few seconds and then stop and they will always stop at the same place. I've been meaning to play around with the ffmpeg command line to see if I can resolve it but havent got around to it yet, I usually convert the problem files (usually stuff my wife wants! Smile ) to mpeg2 with mvprecode. I realise the quality of stuff off the net can vary widely which may be a factor but does anyone else experience this?

Yes I get a few that start and then stop. To be honest, I have now pretty much adjusted to recoding them first to watch, it's just easier, it works and they can be paused and resumed which you can't do with an avi.

Ive being doing some testing and have found that how much is cut off is directly related to the dongle.bin that you are using. If I am using gbmvp.bin it cuts of upwards of 8 seconds worth of the video, whereas when using the dongle.bin from 3.0.24088 it only cuts off about 1-2 seconds.

I have also found it stops at the same place on the same file that has been converted to mpeg2.
