Any time i load up explorer.exe..like my documents, my computer... explorer.exe shoots to 100percent cpu even after i close these programs...usually i can induce a crash..but i cant even really browse for any files because the pc will become very slow...

Fire up the windiws XP recovery console that cimes on the XP install disk, and repair all system files.

i doubt it, it only replaces critical system files. Like explorer.exe, and shouldnt mess with any setttings or anything.

I would open the task manager, and then do what you descirbed, and see what kicks in and uses the resources. If it's just the idle process, then it's more likely a OS problem.

Your admin password will be blank, just hit enter when it asks for that

Did that...i was using network places...(using explorer.exe)...and cpu after about 5 minutes shot up to 100percent! Its almost as though when i exit applications they dont close down all the way.. Because i was using VLC and after i closed it..i heard the file still..

But what process was using the resources (under the processes tab)? explorer.exe?

If it was that, either something uses it to scan the whole system on open (like a virus check), or it's an OS thing.
