Hi guys!

I am running Windows 7 on any machine (a very bad decision, if i consider that windows 7 prefers media foundation codecs instead directshow ones ...). I tried PowerDVD 11 and was very impressed at the TrueTheater HD options. Old SD material from 1967 looks really great with this one enabled!
But ... i don't like the PowerDVD app. And it's not funny to migrate with NextPVR. Often enough i just want to play a whole folder of my media archive and this is just no comfortable enough to relizie with PowerDVD inside NextPVR.

So i look for an alternate. I think, ffdshow could do partially this, what i want to replicate (TrueTheater HD) [strike]but ffdshow won't be loaded into the system. Everytime the Microsoft DTV decoders are preferred, even if i raise the merrit of the directshow ffdshow to the max.
This is really annoying! Microsoft DTV decoder is ok for most purposes, but often enough not ideal (e.g. if you're watching a dubbed video with subbed scenes, the microsoft one just don't honour them and don't show them).

How can i tell windows 7, that it HAS to use the selected directshow decoder, in this case ffdshow?

To be honest ... i am already thinking about to downgrade my mediacentre back to windows vista.[/strike]
Ok, the merit problem could be fixed with the "Win7DSFilterTweaker". Finally ffdshow is used for .h264 codecs.

So there's one problem left: how to replace/add/selfbuilt cyberlinks TrueTheater HD ... Big Grin

I ran across a thread on the AVS Forums... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthrea...st19262434 ... A quote from the specific post says, "TrueTheater HD works only within PowerDVD (Classic or Cinema mode)." Too bad, it sounds really promising.

What you want is a way to us the Cyberlink Tzan filter outside of PowerDVD but there isn't really one. See http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthrea...light=tzan

Thank you both for your input. Smile

Yeah, i thought so on TrueTheater HD. It's just a shame that cyberlink doesn't allow the usage by 3rd party players. I would buy the trial of PDVD 11 Ultra, if i could use TrueTheater HD inside NextPVR.
The raised quality of sd material is unbelievable, it's just great and make even with very, very old movies from 196x nearly BluRay Quality Movies in realtime.
I tried the whole day yesterday to reach something similar with ffdshow, avisynth and different plugins -> no way, all steps made the picture more worser, than better. -.-

@whurlston
Thank you very much for the link, but i think this is another with the tazn filter (framedoubling etc). It's an interesting one too, but not my primary one.
Btw., the user deepdeep1 from this avs thread is on drugs? *buck*

The Tzan filter is responsible for a lot of the TrueTheater HD functions as well as the frame doubling. It's been a while since I researched it (not since that thread actually) so I can't remember exactly all the functions. I just remember thinking that I wish I could figure out a way to use it with NPVR.

RE deepdeep1: I'm vladd in that thread, so you can guess my sentiments on that (I actually hated to point anyone to that thread but there was some good information in it amidst the chaos). You should see the debate on HDMI cables that we had with him.

Mhmpf, i've given up the crap with ffdshow, avisynth and co. Even the optimizers within the intel graphics driver does a load of better work then all avisynth scripts together. "All-In-One" solutions like SVP aren't really better. They're producing a heavy cpu load without nearly reaching the quality of TrueTheater HD.

Anyone an idea to migrate PowerDVD 11 useful into NextPVR for playback the own mediaarchives? The cinemamode is only useful for optical media. Undecided And the normal mode of PowerDVD is ... not userfriendly to control with the remotecontrol.

Narf, i wish i had never tasted the great TrueTheater HD quality on sd material.

With Avisynth you can get some outstanding results - but not in real time.
Last year I produced a couple of 50 fps 720p 5.1ac3 MKV's from BBC SD transmissions using some complicated avisynth scripts. The quality was amazing but my 4 core 955 was flat out for about 27 hours processing the couple of hours of video - makes a good burn in test Smile

It is possible that the Tzan filter is not really needed any more. With the latest SAF unlocked Cyberlink codecs and HD5670 I am getting almost HD quality from SD transmissions on a 43" Plasma running720p. you just need to find the catalyst driver that works for your card and tweak settings. HD programming is now almost Blu-ray Q. The Vector Adaptive deinterlacing is now working well with the latest Cyberlink PDVD 11 Codec.
