I am running a pvr-350 on an 800 MHz PIII with 512 MB of RAM. When I watch live tv, channel changes are slow and after 2-3 consecutive changes the machine locks up. I have put the card in my 3.0 GHz P4 and this does not happen. Is this just a CPU utilization thing? Or could I have some settings messed up on my PIII machine?

Bad news I'm affraid...This is fairly common for people using the PVR-350 tv out. Your only options are:

1) stop using the tv out on the PVR-350
2) or, change your motherboard and hope the new one works better.

This problem is primary reason I stopped developing feature for, or actively support the PVR350 tv out.

Darn. Is this a driver issue that Hauppauge will evenutually iron out or something else? Because it didn't happend when I plugged the card into my P4 desktop...

I have a geforce4 Ti 4200 and although it has tons of output features the picture looked nicer when outputted from the pvr350... The picture also is larger than the tv screen.

i wouldn't count on that. this issue is known quite a long time now, i doupt that hauppauge will ever try to fix it.

as you said you did not had this lockups on another board. this confirms what other users had experienced, too: only some hardware combinations seem to cause problems...

Also, how come the pvr350 locks up only during live tv and not during video/ playback?

betlit: How did you overclock your PIII chip? I have a Compaq motherboard and the BIOS doesn't have any nice bus speed features like an Asus. However, I set the multiplier jumper on the board to higher settings and when I booted windows still reported the chip at 800 MHz (I set the multiplier as high as it would go, i think 8x). Any thoughts?

bad luck. i do not know much about this... i have one of this nice 'jumperless' asus boards and was able to just set the frequencies in the bios...

sorry.
