Anyone know how I can play .m4v (H.264) files? I have the Quicktime Alternative player and the VLC player installed, and I can manually open the files in VLC and play them file, but GBPVR doesn't seem to "see" the files when I look in the recordings folder they are sitting in.

As always, thanks for your help.

If you have the appropriate directshow filters installed for this file type, and the file can play in Windows Media Player, then it stands a good chance of playing in GB-PVR.

OK, so I may have a work-around for this...

Does anyone have the IRRemote.INI codes to start and control VLC Media Player? The videos I'm wanting to watch play fine through this player, so if I could start VLC in full screen and allow my hauppauge remote to open and play a file, I will be set.

Right now I'm stuck with walking over to my PVR or my other PC to VNC over to the PVR and start the playback.

thanks all.

I guess, installing FFDSHOW should do te trick. Worth a try.

Well I tried two different FFDShow installs (ffdshow-20020617.exe & ffdshow-20041012-sse.exe), and neither seem to do anything for me. But that may be because I have no clue how to use this thing. There is a config screen but that's it, I left everything set to their defaults.

If I open the file in Media Plaer it says it's missing the AVC1 codec, I searched around for that and can't seem to find anything else. Hey if nothing, by the time I'm done all this I should have condecs for just about every flavor of video. Smile

thanks all.

Check here: http://ffdshow.sourceforge.net/tikiwiki/...ng+ffdshow

I would uninstall the old one first, after install check if h264 decoding is enabled in video decoder configuration.

Well I can FINALLY play the files in MediaPlayer... Now how do I tell GBPVR that an .M4V file is a valid file type?

Thank you, thank you HtV, that FFDSHOW was the trick.

I now CAN see and play the files in GBPVR if I rename them to .AVI. Of course this requires me to do this manually, so it kinda defeats what I'm trying to do. But I figured this was an important piece of info...

I figured out another work around for the M4V files... I reboot my box each night around 5:00AM, (just to clear anything out of memory, etc). So in that reboot.bat I created I added line "ren C:\recordings\*.m4v *.avi" which renames any .m4v files sitting in my reportings directory, so worst case I'm a day off on my shows, which it's a big deal since many of the shows don't come out daily or even weekly.

Thanks ALL for your input. Happy viewing.

you use a video plugin to play the .m4v files. "My Videos" allows you to define the file extensions that should be considered "video files". im sure you can do something similar in "Video Arch" and perhaps "XRecord"

I've been using X-Record to setup and watch all my recordings. I don't know where you would set file types in there, maybe I'll drop the author a note. Thanks for your plug-in suggestion. I may give that a try too.

thanks all.
