After recording a game of soccer; the quality on my TV-out was pretty bad. Especially the quick pans are killing it. After manually de-interlacing the recording (with TMPGEnc) quality improves; but a TV-out should be able to play interlaced video? Isn't it?

Any suggestions on improving TV-out quality on interlaced video?

My specs:
- PVR250
- Pundit-R with integrated video and TV-Out ( Ati 9100 IGP / RS300 )
- Celeron 2.4

I also have a Pundit (running MythTV) and the problem with the TV out from the graphics card, as I understand it, is that the video has to be deinterlaced for the graphics card and then reinterlaced for the TV output, degrading the quality of the video. Hardware based alternatives would be to use either an Xcard or a PVR 350 for TV output. Software-based solutions would be to try ReClock and you may also want to look at Dscaler. I'm not sure how GBPVR interfaces with DirectShow filters, however, as I haven't tried these myself. My Pundit is on a fairly small TV so my issues are not that noticeable.

I find the Cyberlink video decoder does really well with recordings played through the TV-out.

It comes with PowerDVD, so if you have it you'll have the decoder.

I've only been able to get it working properly in Overlay mode though.

Yes, this decoder is not compatible with VMR. Maybe there next version will be.

I solved the problem with only a couple of bucks [Image: smile.gif] : http://ryoandr.free.fr/english.html

With a home-made VGA-to-SCART-cable a TV can be connected directly to VGA. With Powerstrip the VGA-signal can be set to 25 Hz Interlaced.

Image quality is perfect! I haven't seen a PVR350 or XCard in action; but i can't imagine how it could be better.

For other Pundit-R owners: PowerStrip timing parameters:
720x540=720,47,56,129,540,21,5,70,15270,33

Just wondering, are you using the "weave" setting at the moment, or stil bob/auto ?

I'm not de-interlacing at all
So there's no need to Weave or Bob.

weave~= no deinterlacing, it does exactly as it says, it weaves the two fields to one frame without any modifications.

For as far as I know there is no disable deinterlacing option in software like windvd/powerdvd , just a setting to set either weave/bob/progressive(only windvd).. and optionally enabling dxva/hwmc (which alows deinterlacing alghoritms of the graphics card to be used). The same applies for the codecs.

So if you say you don't deinterlace at all, how have setup the decoder you use to do so (cause by default it will always use bob/auto, regardles of the display that is attached to the pc).

ps , which decoder do you use?
