Just some feedback from a casual user,

I did a completely new install (freshly imaged WinXP Machine w/ .net 2.0). Never had GBPVR on this computer before. Install went fine, setup everything and the service starts in the tray.

Some Problems I've had:

  1. I went to start GBPVR from the tray...nothing. I'm not able to start it from the tray at all. However, I'm able to use the start menu to get to it just fine.
  2. Net Radio will not play anything at all...it's not a network/firewall issue either...I connected this machine direct connect with no firewall to test it.
  3. When closing GBPVR I get the same 'Microsoft Send Error Report' message that has been posted about.
  4. Under Playback tab, Video Decoder Settings, Capture fails no matter what decoders are set to and even though liveTV and recording work fine.
  5. After about 15 minutes of solid Television...the screen went black while sound continued to play. I restarted GBPVR but could only get to a black screen with no controls. Rebooted the PC and was able to get to GBPVR controls again....however, could not play live TV...ran the config, changed from overlay to vmr9 custom and problem went away...I can play live TV again now...however, overlay doesn't work for me anymore
  6. From the TV Guide to Live TV takes around 6-10 seconds before the TV is displayed.
  7. Pausing liveTV enters timshift mode as normal...however, after the screen goes dark and the message is displayed, once righting itself back to the video...the video is completely black. I see no picture when pausing live TV. So if I fast forward...nothing but black. Also, if I hit play again, the video kicks back in but the video has skipped forward about 20-30 frames. For example, in Grey's Anatomy earlier tonight, one character was entering the room, I hit pause, and after the video came back on she was beside the bed of the patient...skipped many frames. Now I suppose this could be a setting right? If so, I'm at a loss as to which one

I've attached my log files (as many as I could find in the directory).

Instead of clagging up the release thread with general support, I decided to move your posts to this separate thread. They look more like general support questions rather than comments/questions about install or upgrading to the new release.

Did you right to bring up the menu, then select 'Start GB-PVR'? or did you try double clicking on it?

You could try setting <UseWindowsMediaPlayerForNetRadio>false</UseWindowsMediaPlayerForNetRadio> in config.xml - it might help.

Does it generate a message in the event log for this? If so, what is the text of the error?

Were you using Overlay at this time? If so, you could see if the problem goes away with VMR.

This is normal. Some apps hold on to the capture device resources when they're running. GB-PVR tries to be friendly by releasing the resources when not in use. It does take some short period of time like this to acquire the resources and start things up.

This is normal. To make sure GB-PVR changes channels as quickly as possible it does no buffering at all (straight from card to screen), so when you hit the pause button, it needs to stop everything and setup and start a recording. This take a some time and the frames between these points are lost. If this is unacceptable, you can configure it to run in timeshift mode, which buffers all tv and allows you to get instant pause functionality, but it does come at the expense of much slower channel change times. Which mode you end up using probably comes down to whether you prefer channel surfing or the ability to pause - you choose.
