webadmin running on networked pc sharing connection

im new to the webadmin, never even looked at it until today. i can access it fine on my local network, since its just my lan ip address.

but how can i access my pvr on the net, when its sharing its connection from another computer?

do i have to use a service like
http://www.dyndns.com
?

does anyone know a good free one, that wont let hackers get into my system?
how secure is this really?

im really paranoid about this kind of stuff....

you run a router?? if so, just set up a port forward on the internet from port 7647 to port 7647 on the machine with webadmin.

nah no router just a cheap ADSL usb modem, and network through a standard switch.

as for the security side there are heaps of ways of doing it.

Personally i run an ssh server (since my router is able to do it) and come in through a tunnel. The only way onto my network from the internet is through a usb key i keep on me, since it holds a key.

But getting into that sort of stuff, is not the easiest...

Those modems can still do it. How have you connected your two machines?? two network cards and Windows internet Connection sharing??

Not quite sure with that. You'd still be able to do it, but you'd need to fix the ip address of the shared machine.

my gateway machine has a fixed internet ip address aswell.

You might need to set up a new "service" on port 7647

Then forward that service to the internal lan ip address of your gbpvr machine.

Then you should be able to access gbpvr from the internet on http://internetip:7647

I would recommend looking at a router to do this properly and securely.
