I'm trying to go wireless at home, but I'm stuck at the MVP. For those of you that have done this, how / what do I need to buy to plug the MVP in?

Thanks in advance!

Krugar,

There's a section in the WIKI which is a good start point. Have you come across that yet? (1/2 way down page)

I started with that & other research into wireless bridging. Based on what I found it looked really easy to bridge two Belkin F5D7230-4 routers.

It problably would be, but at least in Canada all I can find is ver.4000tt and they no longer support wireless bridging (can't be flashed to a version that does either).

So I returned one of the routers & kept one for now. But I'm stuck & starting over. The linksys information requires a 3rd party flash and a specific version of linkysys if I've understood it correctly.

What I'd like to find out is, is there something easily found that I can just plug in & not have to fight with? I'll pick it up today lol.

Thanks!

I think this buffalo router also support wireless bridge mode, but be sure to ask the tech support before you buy. You need two same routers for easy setup.

Your other option is to wait for the wireless MVP.

I successfully use two of the Belkins as bridges, I am sure that they are still available F5D-7230-4, ver. 1440 or 2000 both support bridging. Just order them from a US supplier. They are regularly on sale for less than $30 US. Of course you can just buy a wireless bridge for around $80(USD).

Most of the problems I have are software related not the wireless activity. The exception being the microwave! Occasionally there are some stutters, neighbors doing something? Who knows? But, overall I would say the wireless works 98% of the time.

There is also a new MVP that is wireless... doesn't help if you already bought it... but for anyone looking for a new one.

I don't recommend this as YMMV, but as a proof of concept I successfully run one MVP wireless over 802.11B using a linksys gaming adaptor. It will occasionally stutter if trying to stream something at a high bitrate, and live tv is hit and miss, but for std video and audio files it works fine.

I went with two US Robotics 5461 Routers. Once I receive all the rebates, I will have spent $15 on each. I don't know when it will be on sale for that again.

The key thing I found was external antennas. They make all the difference. Another thing was to open the firewall on my pc to a different set of local ip addresses. Until I remembered to do that, I had to start the Hauppauge MVP Services to get the MVP to start up after it was unplugged.

My setup is one of the wiki ones. Two WRT54GS bridged using hyperWRT Firmware Thibor 15c. Works a real treat.

Well now, the WMVP is available direct from the Hauppauge website:

I am seriously considering getting one
