Hi All,

This is a shameless plug for the new LCD Plugin that can be downloaded from the plugins page.

This plugin requires jaLCDs to drive an LCD or VFD (check http://www.jalcds.de to find out if your display is supported). All the plugin does is set a number of variables based on values reported by GB-PVR. Using jaLCDs' configuration tool you can define the layout of the screens that display the values of these variables anyway you want.

I hope this plugin is of use to some of you.

I get a massive lag when changing tracks (using the jukebox plugin), and the lcd doesn't update with the new track name/time. When I have a small playlist and press 'Skip' then current song keeps playing but the track time in gbpvr stops counting, then some 5-10 seconds later it jumps to the next file and everything is okay. I assume it's the UltraID3Lib.dll file that does it, 'cos it also behaves like that when I have deletet the lcdplugin dll file.

Trouble is that I can't remove UltraID3Lib.dll [Image: sad.gif] when I delete it GBpvr says "Error: File or assembly name UltraID3Lib, or one of its dependencies, was not found.". I even get the error if I delete the file and reinstall GBpvr (without removing the old dir 'cos I don't want to loose all my recordings and setting).

How do I uninstall UltraID3Lib.dll? I assume it's not a part of the regular GBpvr-installation 'cos it doesn't get installed with a re-install.

Nicolai,

I'm sorry it doesn't work for you. I have tried it on three different systems and have not run into any problems.

Anyway, the error you get when you delete UltraID3Lib.dll indicates that the LCD plugin is still there. UltraID3Lib.dll is not part of GB-PVR and comes with the LCD plugin. Removing the LCD plugin removes the depency on UltraID3Lib.dll.

I suggest you make sure that you have really deleted LCDPlugin.dll.

Nicolai,

Just a thought... The LCD plugin communicates with jaLCDs using sockets (like all jaLCDs plugins do). I assume a firewall won't get in the way because this is a local connection, but could that be the culprit? Do you have other jaLCDs plugins that do work for you?

It could be that the LCD plugin tries to connect, and that you notice it blocking until the attempt times out. If you open jaLCDs' TCP/IP status window, you can see if anything has connected to it.

Thanks for the suggestions! I removed all the plugins, then reinstalled GBpvr, and it looks (and sounds) like the music is now playing as it should [Image: smile.gif]

I'll try to install the lcd plugin again and see if I can figure out how it's communicating with jalcds. I have another plugin for jalcds that gets weather info over the internet, and it works so I think the connections are okay.

Maybe it's an isue that I'm using jalcds v3.02? Is that the version you're using?

Nicolai,

Are you sure you're running 3.02, and not 3.2? I'm running 3.2, which is the latest version. The previous versions caused me no end of trouble when going into standby.

yes, it's v3.02 [Image: smile.gif] That's probably the reason why it does strange things here, I'll try to update to the new version!

anyway to add Girder LCD support? (also using variables I guess - although it would also need an event)

I just SKIPPED using jaLCDs (I was using Girder for other things anyway) [Image: sad.gif] since it is a system hog.

See what this guy did for Meedio (which I use along with GBPVR):

http://www.meedio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16681

he may help you

great job anyway

Hi,

You're right about jaLCDs not being the best piece of software out there [Image: wink.gif]

I started out with the plan to make this plugin work for my specific display only. However, it seemed better to provide support for a wide range of displays. Yet, I didn't want to write display specific drivers (or wait for others to do so) plus a configuration tool. I did consider Girder, but since it is no longer free, I removed it from my list of candidates. I think I looked at every single piece of free LCD software out there, and jaLCDs is simply the only one that delivers, despite its major short comings...

Then again, if anyone can point me to LCD software that is free, supports a wide range of displays, and allows displayed values to be provided by a plugin, please let me know and I will seriously consider it.

Regards,

Jan
