Hi,

I have received a response from Reven to try in the gbpvr forum for the answer I seek, so here goes.

I am trying to understand where my issue lies it may not be with xmltv it could be with gbpvr, I am hoping you can point me in the right direction.

I have a tvcard which has the normal NZ tv channels configured for the antenna, and then I use the composite input on the tv card for my sky receiver.

I have them configured as two separate sources in gbpvr but of course in terms of channel lineup there is two tv1, tv2, tv3, maori, prime and c4 I would like to be able to easily tell on the epg which tv1 is on the sat source and which is on the antenna.
This is only likely to be compounded when I finally set up my second TV card.

I currently do not understand where the channel names are being driven from as when I add them manually they seem to change names (and channels) when I do an epg update. If I could fathom out why this happens I think I could understand the process better.

I think you are asking the same issue I had. My solution is to edit the input epg files before loading into gbpvr. There may be a better solution now, but this still works fine for me, so I get channels like bbc1 sat (satellite), bbc1 air (freeview) etc etc http://www.hubstar.net/onestar/gbpvr/xmltv.shtml

I think you can just unselect them from the channel source, or yeah, remove it from the input epg file. In your case idkpmiller, it'd be easier to edit the batch file that downloads you channels to remove the tv1, 2 3 etc from the sky stuff.

In this type of setup, the channel names come from the XMLTV file. GB-PVR treats all channels with the same name as the same channel, regardless of which capture source they come from. When you view them in the tv guide, you are only shown the one channel to represent them all.

If you have a specific channel on multiple capture sources, then GB-PVR chooses which to use when doing a recording. It can also move recordings to a different capture source with the same channel to avoid conflicts if necessary.

When you schedule a recording it'll start at top of the capture source list in the config app, and work its way down, looking for capture source that has the requested channel and is available. When you watch tv, it starts at the bottom of the list and works its way up looking for capture source that has the requested channel and is available.

Sub, I used the info above to reconfigure my capture devices so that the nova-t was 1st and the 350 2nd.

I scheduled a recording (via EWA) on BBC1 (available on both devices) and then attempted to schedule a recording on E4 (freeview only). It refused to record the second show.

I then cancelled the 1st show, then scheduled the E4 show follow by the BBC1 show without problems.

Any advice on what is happening here?

Yes, this is a known issues with GB-PVR since the beginning. I'll probably fix it one day.

The recording is allocated to a tuner at the time it is scheduled, and will only reallocate tuners for a few specific situations, and this is not one of them. Your nova-t was effectively marked as not available because of the recording you scheduled earlier.

I think all of us have seen this behavior once or twice...

Will be happy to see it disappear.

Thats sounds great, Will you be looking to add a move up/down option to the capture source screen which would make sorting the sources to the best order far easier?

That would be really good - thanks. I hit this problem quite often.

Ideally, I would like a show to be recording on the "prefered" device UNLESS this would cause a subsequent recording to then fail due to the lack of channel availability.

With 2 tuners, I don't think it would be too hard but I can image it being difficult to write logic that will work with more.
