This is a problem that has just cropped up with 0.97.07 , I never had this issue previously. Whenever I reboot the computer the recording service doesn't start. It is set to automatic and even to restart if it fails but no go. I tried a reinstall using the repair option, that didn't help. Then I even uninstalled and reinstalled the service using the net2.0 version of installutil.exe but that didn't help either. The system event log errors are:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7009
Date: 5/30/2006
Time: 2:38:05 AM
User: N/A
Computer: PVR
Description:
Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the GB-PVR Recording Service service to connect.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

and:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 5/30/2006
Time: 2:38:05 AM
User: N/A
Computer: PVR
Description:
The GB-PVR Recording Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I have upgraded to the sql database and had to use your revised changedatabase.exe (might want to add that to the surviving ... thread).

Everything works as long as I start the recording service but if the computer reboots I have to manually start it again.

There is nothing in the logs since they are not written until it starts. Every log I have from the recording service jsut starts with the normal starting service and there are no error entries.

Any ideas appreciated.

Could it be an antivirus or firewall problem. 97.7 + .Net 2.0 are known to have problems with some of them.
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.

No antivirus installed. No firewall except the built in XP one that has not been changed since installation. This machine is dedicated to PVR use so it doesn't get much other use and there is virtually no other software installed.

Also I have been using GB-PVR for a while now without any real problems, it is just since 0.97.07 that this has started. I can't swear to it but it might be since I changed to the sql database but I don't remember for sure.

Just to add a little mre info. I reread the surviving ... thread and noticed the recording service issues listed there so I double checked and there are none of the named batch files in the directory.

When I installed 0.97.7, it wouldnt run at all. I had to uninstall it, remove all the files in C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr, reinstall, and then d/l the latest comskip.

There are lots of files left in C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr even after an uninstall. I'm sure I could have tried to save my settings, etc, but didnt want to spend that much time on it...

Mine runs fine and everything works it just seems to have a few minor issues, this being one of them. As long as I manually start the recording service everything is fine. I may just put a shortcut to restart.bat in the startup group for now.

*bump*

Has anyone found a fix to this?
My recording service is also set to automatic, yet fails to start.
I would simply place the restart.bat in my startup menu, but that means I have to run as admin!
Any fix that would allow me to create a "PVR" user with limited rights and no password for house guests and the like?

Stop the GB-PVR software, delete all the logs, reboot, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

thanks for the uber-quick reply Smile

it only made one log file, and it's short . . . so I'll just paste it in here:
