Hi guys,

I don't have an MVP, but i plan to get one next couple of days...

Does anyone know if, when you bring the MVP out of stand-by, can it power on the TV set?

I know that, for example with a SCART connector,a VCR could power on the TV when you insert the tape into it and power off when you eject the tape...

If it can... well, it's weird to have 2 remotes: 1 to power on the TV and the other remote to use it with the MVP.

Thanks.

I would have thought it depends on the TV.

The control signal on pin 8 is normally used to change the TV onto the SCART input - my MVP does this. I guess it is possible that a TV on standby could react to it.

http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/scarts2.htm

"just one connection (pin 8) is used for signalling purposes. The intention was that a video recorder (for example) would put a "here I am" voltage on pin 8 when it was switched to "play." The TV would respond by showing the video signal (from the Scart lead) instead of the terrestrial picture from the aerial input."

I guess yo could make up a power box with a solid state relay or something that the SCART signal could use to power up the TV, but there again, you couldn't turn it on with the remote.....

Thanks Martin.
As i found on the link you gave me:
Quote:A Scart system works by detecting 12 volts on pin 8. In other words, if, say, the VCR is ON then it puts 12 volts on pin 8 to tell the TV "here I am - look at me".

This could be like a mod for the MVP model with SCART, right? Smile

It would be great to start the MVP and automatically switch on the TV and display the image from AV source.

Found something on http://www.avforums.com/forums/archive/i...72404.html

Quote:You can wire in a switching voltage to Pin 8 if you want auto-av selection and you may need a small voltage on Pin 16 to force RGB unless you can put the display device into RGB mode manually.

Pin 8 is "Function Select". When it's voltage is between 0 and 2V (DC) the TV is in TV mode. When it is between 5 and 8V the TV goes in to widescreen mode (if applicable). If it is between 9.5 and 12V the TV goes in to AV mode.

Pin 16 is "RGB control". When its voltage is between 0 and 0.4V the AV mode displays the signal on the Composite Video pin (pin 20). When it's voltage is between 1 and 3V the AV mode will display the R,G,B signals.

The input impedance on Pin 8 is around 10k ohms and the input impedance on pin 16 is 75 ohms so you may need to terminate with appropriate resistors.
