I hope this isn't already available, I've had a good look for this functionality and can't find it.

Most programming comes in series with the same title, and there are lots of series that you know you are never going to want to watch. Something as simple as a programme title blacklist would really save time trawling through EPG data.

What would you display in the guide where these blacklisted should be?

I was thinking more about the search guide than the TV guide, so you wouldn't need to replace the blacklisted programmes with anything at all.

I only really watch recordings, so once every week or two I scroll through the search guide and pick out what I want to watch. This is probably my favourite thing about GB-PVR, the way it makes you free of the whim of TV schedulers (save the occasional clash). However, that's a lot of stuff to scroll through, and I've realised that the vast majority of the stuff I'm skipping is the same every week, so it would be great to be able to skip it automatically.

I have hankered after a tv guide filter for ages, whereby you just see a blank instead of (for example) "Big Brother" or "Monkey Tennis". This would help browsing for what's on enourmously.

If the filter ran after update epg, this would work for the guide and search feature as these entries would be removed from the xml file.

I think that anyone who can code and knows xml should be able to throw a little util together to remove an object that matches program titles in the blacklist. this util could then be added to postepgupdate.bat.

Yeah, I like the idea of positive filters that go looking for things (e.g. always record anything with "Star Trek" in the title, or clever software that gets to know a user's tastes), but I think one big negative one to screen out rubbish could solve 95% of the problem of figuring out what's on that you might actually want to watch.

I was thinking about the TV guide, and it seems like it should be possible to collapse it down vertically quite a bit once you've taken out the programmes you don't want to watch. After all, who cares what channel something's on? Not all programmes start and end on the hour, but a lot do, and I'm sure someone smarter than me can figure out a way to collapse things efficiently.
