This idiot needs help installing and applying skins

I have downloaded and installed GBPVR 0.97.9 and BaseSkin and Multiple Themepacks but when I choose a skin in config the xml files aren't found....while I was writing this I decided to try and copy the default files to the theme folders and now it all works perfectly. I am posting this just in case someone stumbles around like I did.

Not all is well, I can't get the skins to use the cool icons. They use the base icons. What am I doing wrong?

You forgot to read instruction on the Wiki :-)

1. Download and install the BaseSkin into the /skin directory.
2. Select the BaseSkin in the config app.
3. Download and install ThemePacks into the BaseSkin directory.
4. You can change to a preferred Theme by running the CopyFiles.bat in the preferred Advisor.xxxx directory.
5. An easier way to change Theme, is to install the ThemesManager plugin, then you can select Theme within GBPVR.

I had figured that out later on. I never had time to post an update. When everything is new it can be overwhelming. I feel that for people like me the following found on Baseskin page should include a note that BaseSkinPlugins should be installed in order to use ThemesManager:

Install and configure the BaseSkin
To install, extract ZIP content. Run the Installer and set SKINROOT variable program at the end of the installation
Then select BaseSkin in the config program.

Also, the Themesmanager link above and below are a login to Wiki instead of to a download of BaseSkinPlugins.zip that includes a ThemesManager that allows use of ThemePacks.


I want to see this program succeed even with the most computer illiterate. I build my own systems, work on telecom equipment with TL1, use ReplayTV and all available apps, and keep up with http://www.videohelp.com. The easier and more complete GBPVR becomes the more users we will have.
