What is VMR7, VMR9, Overlay Manager?

Hi All,

What do they all mean and what do they do? I have a PVR350 card if that makes the slightest bit of difference.

VMR7, VMR9 & Overlay manager are all mechanisms that the underlying DirectShow can use to display video and graphics on a PC monitor.

Overlay is the oldest, and most widely supported. VMR7 was created next, was only available on XP, and added the ability to mix multiple video streams and have flashy features like alpha blended (semi-transparent) graphics on top of the video. VMR9 was created most recently as part of DirectX9, and is the next version on from VMR7, and is available on XP, Win2k, 98 etc.

If you're using the PVR350's tv out, then it doesn't use any of these.
