has language.txt handling changed?

I've just upgraded to 97.9. Heretofore I had a language.txt file which translated some menu words. E.g., it translated "XSearch" to "Search Guide".
In 97.9, the language.txt file disappeared. I re-created it, ran Config, and it disappeared again.
How do things work now? What do I need to create so that the language is English, but I can describe certain word/phrase substitutions?

Since v0.96 you need to create your own language file in the "language" directory. Give it a name other than 'English', then select the language name in the config app.
