new member...some questions...

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and also new to the concept of PVR.

I want to use my laptop as a PVR. It is a COMPAQ presario 2100, AMD atlon 2400+, 512Mb ram, 40 Gb hard drive (maybe an upgrade to 80 Gb soon).

I plan to use GBPVR to to record TV show, play MP3 and watch DVD. I also plan to build a HTPC computer later this year so my laptop will be use only to learn more about GBPVR and the PVR concept.

My problem is that I need a IR blaster to control my satellite box. My plan was to use the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-USB2 MCE kit but I'm not sure if it will work with GBPVR? Would it be better if I buy the non-MCE version and buy a microsoft remote so I will have the IR blaster? What is my best option?

Same laptop I have! I love it, and the best thing about it was that work was throwing it out!

I can't answer your specific question, but I know there a ton of people here on the boards that can. This place is a wealth of knowledge for everything GB-PVR!!!
