Show Search is an alternative to the stock GBPVR EPG search plug-in. Show Search is oriented around the use of the remote control, although the keyboard can be used as well. The search can also be restricted to just movies, episodes, or sports shows.

Both SQLite and Access are supported, although the UI response with Access is fairly sluggish. If you are using Access, have entered keys and nothing seems to be happening, just sit back and wait 30 seconds or so. With SQLite the display response to key presses seems more real-time.

Show names are input using the remote control or keyboard. On the remote, you type 2 for A, B, or C, you type 3 for D, E, or F and so on.

The yellow key can be used to narrow or widen the search scope.

The red key can be used to change the field that is searched (the name or the description)

The green key is used to change the search mode. It can be either (i) any word starts with the search string, (ii) the search field starts with the search string, or (iii) the search string is embedded anywhere in the search field.

The blue key is used to toggle between search mode and a display of upcoming recordings.

Shows that match the search criteria are listed on the left; individual episodes that are listed on the right. Episodes that have already been recorded (as indicated in the video archive plug-in database) will have a symbol next to them to indicate this. In the default skin it is a red circle with a D in it (for duplicate). Episodes that are already scheduled to be recorded will have a symbol next to them to indicate this. In the default skin it is a blue circle with a S in it (for scheduled). This look in skinable in the List View skin.xml file.

Pressing the play key will switch to live TV if the selected show is currently available to be watched.

Note that to exit the plug-in you cannot not press the back button; that just clears the search string. To exit press the MENU button.

If you have a skin for the video archive plug-in you should be able to adapt it to the show search plug-in fairly quickly. I also have a bluemce2 compatible skin for it if that would be helpful.

Jeff,

I notice a lot of plugins use the red, green, blue, and yellow buttons from the hauppauge remotes and the mce remote that has them. Is there any equivalents on the MCE 2005 remote that doesn't have the colored buttons? I'm not using HIP at this moment to remap any buttons or anything, and I already had the mce remote sitting around so I would hate to have to go buy a new remote just for a few more buttons. Thanks.

It depends which MCE remote you're using. My MCE remote has these buttons. See picture below.

That said, I've personally been trying to avoid relying on these buttons for the last year or so since lots of now common remotes dont have them.

If you are using a keyboard and mouse, those will also indicate CTRL-B, CTRL-G, CTRL-R and CTRL-Y.

I know this doesn't help your specific situation, but I just stated that for those who may not know it or can map keystrokes to a remote.

<SpecialElement name="OSDLocation" loc="150, 0" size="500, 60"/>

controls the location of the letters.

<TextStyle name="OSDFont" color="Yellow" typeFace="Tahoma" size="30" style="Regular"/>

controls the OSD font.

Also, all the <TextString> stuff can be deleted. That is left over from the VA skin that I started from and not used in the Show Search plug-in.

What bars are you refering too? Everything should be skinable.

Mine is just like that minus the colored buttons, so I guess I am out of luck when it comes to that. Maybe when I make my next capture card purchase I will buy one of the Hauppauge kits that includes the card and remote. I do have the MCE Keyboard as well, but it's not as convenient to dig the keyboard out from under the coffee table just to do something on the tv screen. Thanks for the info.

Sub,

Where did you get a hold of this remote if you don't mind my asking? I looked around on a couple sites and they only sell the version that I have without the colored buttons. Thanks.

Another user from here in New Zealand bought three of them in an OEM pack, and kindly sent me one. I dont know where he bought it.

Ah. Well I looked around and it seems as though the version you have is what is sold outside of the US and the version I have is what is sold in the US. I guess I could see about buying from a european online retailer and have it shipped if I really want it Smile
