new to gbpvr but really like it Big Grin
i have two DVB-T "sticks" hauppauge Nova T and a freecom. Under XP the freecom doesnt have reliable BDA drivers and using vgear, yakumo etc tend to make my pc unstable so im using the nova t.

only problem is the nova t seems to not get complete EPG data from DVB broadcasts whilst the freecom was much better at getting this EPG info.

any ideas?

it used to be the case that re-running (several times) to dvb epg update would fill in the gaps, perhaps try this.

I think there are some people who use dvb epg reliably but I moved over to using xmltv files a long time ago. It's much faster to download the info and I found the data more reliable.

Its fairly normal to end up with some gaps when using the DVB EPG option. Make sure you turn off the 'complete EPG reload' option in the config app, and you'll find those gaps are filled in with subsequent EPG updates (next day etc).

Its actually not that slow. Severals versions ago, I used to spend like three minutes on each transponder in an effort to try to fill in the gaps. I later realised that not all the listings were being transmitted, so wouldnt have mattered if I waited 10 minutes on each transponder - there would still be gaps.

These days it defaults 1 minute per transponder, which is how long the DVB spec says. This means about four minutes to update the EPG most countrys. As a comparision, the zap2it EPG takes as much as 15 minutes for lots of people.

It also occurs automatically in the middle of the night when you're asleep, so who cares if it takes 4 minutes.

Sorry Sub.
I was aware that you had improved things considerably in this area and I should have mentioned that to the OP. I didn't mean to imply that dvb epg download was "slow", only that (for me at least) the xmltv is much faster. My xmltv downloads the listings for 10 channels x 12 days in 15 secs

As mentioned, the download speed is an non-issue but when I was constantly having to re-create the tuner (hardware problems), the long delay in the old version was a real pain for me.

I don;t know who writes the DVB EPG programme descriptions (and how good they are) but alan birtles xmltv grabs all the show info from the BBC radio times and I find their assessment of (say) a movie to be a very much in tune with my own opinions. e.g. when they say "This movie is pant's" and I watch it anyway, I wish I hadn't!.

Dont worry, I was just add information, not doing a rebuttle.

I think the UK is in a lucky position when it comes to XMLTV data. Birtles xmltv grabber must have some nice easily accessible source of info that allows it to be downloaded in one go.

In most parts of the world XMLTV data is extracted off various websites and takes a long time. For example, here in New Zealand it literally has to download serveral thousand pages worth of info off the Sky TV website to get our listings. This is much much slower than the DVB EPG.

the UK was in the same position until 2 years ago when the radio times realise the massive load that xmltv grabbers were putting on their servers and how much cheaper it would be for them to provide the data directly. If enough people in NZ start using xmltv for sky to notice then they may do the same

You confuse NZ's Sky TV with a nice company to deal with Big Grin They just ban IP addresses instead. I was banned for about a year.
