Hello all.
I have been reading alot on the forum and Wiki but still have a few questions on GBPVR so I hope someone can jump in and shed some light on a few issues.

I currently used BTV (old version 3.x) to act as my PVR. I also use myHTPC as frontend for DivX,DVD player, I have a PVR-250 as capturecard.
Since I now want access to my PVR-funktions, LiveTV and VideoCollection on my second TV I started looking at GBPVR and all of its features.
My idea is to have GBPR connected to the main CRT-TV 32" Widescreen in my livingroom and have a MVP upstaris connected to a 32" Widescreen LCD.
I have a few questions left however:
1 - Can GBPVR with one MVP run OK on a 2.0 GHz Celeron P4 with 512 MB memory ?
2 - Will the MVP interface be slow when running the GBPVR on that slow HW ?
3 - Can GBPVR record and transcode (at night not right after the recording) into VMW and save the transcoded file in a separate dir (for a later sync to my PPC (Ipaq) ?
3,5 - Can the original MPEG2 recording be automaticly deleted after a transcode ?
4 - How would the MVP deal with a HD-Ready LCD TV, I would assue I still have to run 768x576 (PAL) on the MVP, would that cause the recordings GUI, EPG etc to look bad, ?
5 - Will all kind of MVP revisions work with GBPVR ?
6 - Can repeating recordings be set to keep X number of recorded shows and then start to record over the first recording file again ?

My thoughts on these:
Quote:1 - Can GBPVR with one MVP run OK on a 2.0 GHz Celeron P4 with 512 MB memory ?
Yes, I think so, esp. if you use the MVP a lot. I use a 1.2GHz PIII with 512MB. On the PC or TVOut, there is less load on the CPU if you have a video card with h/w acceleration and DXVA (see forum h/w section for that)
Quote:2 - Will the MVP interface be slow when running the GBPVR on that slow HW ?
It's not blazing fast, and sub notes the faster the host server and network, the faster the commands can go back and forth. Still I find it "acceptable".
Quote:3 - Can GBPVR record and transcode (at night not right after the recording) into VMW and save the transcoded file in a separate dir (for a later sync to my PPC (Ipaq) ?
VMW or WMV? I don't know. Others may!
Quote:3 - Can the original MPEG2 recording be automaticly deleted after a transcode ?
I am not sure but most transcodes are performed by batch files calling the transcoding s/w, so I think that this is something that can be set up easily enough (or by a plugin).
Quote:4 - How would the MVP deal with a HD-Ready LCD TV, I would assue I still have to run 768x576 (PAL) on the MVP, would that cause the recordings GUI, EPG etc to look bad, ?
I don't know, sorry.
Quote:5 - Will all kind of MVP revisions work with GBPVR ?
Yes, so far. See MVP Forum for dongles for the newer Rev. H.
Quote:6 - Can repeating recordings be set to keep X number of recorded shows and then start to record over the first recording file again ?
Yes. There is at least a plugin to keep X# of recordings. I can't remember if it also part of the native app, as I use a plugin.

HTH. Have a look/search around the forum and the wiki (www.gbpvr.com/pmwiki). A lot more specific answers can be found in the hardware section, and plugins sections.

I still use myHTPC for my divx/xvid movies. I just make myHTPC as a custom task to load myHTPC and make the background the same as GBPVR. It works pretty well.

As for the transcoding, there are two scripts that will allow you to transcode overnight and give you the ability to transcode to another directoy.

Mine: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...mtranscode

Stattik: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ht=stattik

Another script you might want to try is zprocess also in the forums.

GBPVR has the ability natively to transcode, but not to a different directory or have to versions.

Finally, GBPVR natively can limit the number of shows to keep. I use this all the time.

Thanks for your replies, so far I think I can make it work... :-)
Any ideas on the Widescreen HD 1280x720 (or above) with MediaVMP ?

I also just want to make sure that I will be able to get the EPG and be able to schedule recordings on/from the MVP.
