I installed the DVD ripping plugin, pointed it to the latest version of DVDDecrypter, and ran it, but when I get into the plugin, any key I press raises the following error:

Error: Could not load type GBPVR.Backend.Common.GbpvrException from assembly GBPVRPublic, Version=1.0.1668.13690, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null.

Im using v. 0193

I get exactly the same error. v 0193.
Thought it was me, but seems not.

I think I got ahead of myself releasing it. It relies on some features present in v0.20.

I thought that might have been the case. I look forward to 0.20 then.

Incidentally, will the plugin allow for transcoding to another format? Or will it just rip the raw files off. I expect that transcoding might require a heck of a lot more work.

No, its really just a shell for DVD Decrypter which rips the DVD to your hard drive and removes the CSS encryption during the process.

I've included source code to this relatively basic plugin, and I'm hoping others might take the task on and extend it to support things like transcoding, or converting the sound from AC3 to MPEG1 Layer II (for compatibility with MVP and PVR350), or possibly downloading cover art and synopsis.

you may want to look for a program called "rejg". Search for this on forums.doom9.org. This utility i think can take vob's (or maybe even a dvd) and transcode this into an mpeg2 file - you can set the bitrates, etc. and at least this should produce a playable mpeg 2 file for the MVP,

rejig has command line options, etc. so it should be able to be used in a plugin.

cheers,
Colin.

No...my work on the DVD ripper is done, I'm hopeful someone else will take this and extend to support this kind of stuff.

That said, from your description rejg sounds like just what is needed make the DVD Ripper useful for MVP and PVR350 users.

I'll take a look at merging in something like rejig. We probably have a few options so I'll have a hunt about and see what looks best for the plugin,

ReJig won't be a one step solution. It outputs an m2v file, so you have to mux it with the audio from the original.

I thought a later release allowed you to merge to an mpg?

Anyway i see it will not convert the audio to mp2 so it will probably require a combination of utils.
