Hauppauge references GBPVR as a PVR application for use with the MVP.

Check it out USA site under MVP support.

OUTSTANDING - about time.........

Here's a link to the mention on the support page for the MVP:
http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/s...l#3rdparty

I have wondered why they didn't mention it before. I still wonder why they don't mention it on the support pages for the Hauppauge PVR devices that GB-PVR supports, especially since, on my pc, GB-PVR works MUCH better than the software provided by Hauppauge.

I thought of contacting Hauppauge and telling them about GB-PVR, but then I thought I'd better leave that up to Sub.

I especially like the fact that this reference is immediately after the link to the Sage site where they let you know that you will have to pay an additional $29.95 to use their client on an mvp.

You got that right. I still use WinTV2K as a bare-bones driver to record stuff on my laptop, mainly because it is simple and requires almost zero setup. But like all Hauppauge software applications, it is flaky and only gives a taste of the potential for their hardware products.

All I did to enable my MVP was download the latest S/W from hauppauge.com, extract that dongle.bin, and stick it in GB-PVRs dongle storage. Two minor config items later, I had a GB-PVR front end at the other side of the house. Way cool!

Am I the only one REALLY irritated that Hauppauge doesn't document that their Wireless MVP doesn't support WPA? I'm about ready to return mine for that reason. WPA was the only security I could get all my WiFi devices to agree on, now this.

I kinda guessed it from the manual available on the site. I have written to them twice about WPA support with no answer. WEP can be cracked in what, 5 minutes? WPA has been functioning well for quite a while among devices. WPA2 is already becoming common. Not supporting it is pretty lame. My GeeXboX plays stuff from my server over 802.11g/WPA. Using traffic overhead (vs WEP) as a reason for not supporting WPA is invalid. The user setup isn't really more difficult, either.

I got an answer from them, lame as it is:

"Sorry but we don't support wpa at this time ."

No kidding, Sherlock, why do you think I contacted you in the first place?

I'm still pondering whether I want to experiment with 128 bit WEP or try to swap it with a non-wireless version.

Has Hauppauge ever released new flash firmware for any MediaMVP?

Each updated dongle.bin updates the drivers and software that runs in the MVP, and has the potential to include stuff like WPA etc. No new firmware is required for this sort of update - it would just be a matter of Hauppauge including support for it in one of their dongle.bin files.
