Since installing .98.8, gbpvr.exe will occasionally peg the CPU while doing nothing. I'll notice that the menu is a little sluggish and then when I try to watch Live TV or a recording it's a slideshow. I have to exit GBPVR and restart the recording service to fix it (btw, the recording service shows little to no cpu usage). This happens about every two - three days.

GBPVR is failing to record also, probably a result of the issue above. Quite a few times since I upgraded, it hasn't started recording till after i restart the recording service. It's becoming common practice to race over to the PVR five minutes after a show is supposed to be recording to make sure it actually is. Sad

I'm not using any additional plugins or features, a pretty basic install other than my skin.

Next time it fails to record, can you please post the logs so I can take a look - also post the name of the show and the time it was supposed to record. Did you happen to notice if the recording service was running at the time? If not, its most likely related to post #2 of sticky 'v0.98.8 survival guide' thread.

I cant see an obvious cause in the logs for this 99% cpu thing you mentioned. Can you tell me what time it was occurring, so I know where to look in the logs?

It was working fine last night around 8:50pm (10/6) when i shut the tv off (i leave gbpvr running all the time at the main menu when not in use, always have).

This morning (10/7), my wife said it was very sluggish and she couldn't watch tv (5am) I checked on it in the 7am time frame and found she had exited gbpvr so i started it back up and it was still sluggish so I had to restart the recording service. (sluggish because gbpvr.exe was pegging the cpu)

I'm thinking i may have included the logs where i restarted the recording service to get those shows to start recording, i'll update here in a minute or two...

Is it definitely the gbpvr.exe process using this CPU, ie not the recording service?

Yes, gbpvr.exe not the recording service that is pegging the cpu. I can exit the app and start it back up and about 1-2 seconds after gbpvr.exe starts up, it'll peg the cpu again till i restart the recording service.

Opps, i forgot to attach the recording service logs. here they are:

On 10/4, Bones was supposed to record at 7:00pm... with the 5 minute pre padding, i see this in the logs:
Code:
10/4/2006 6:55:00 PM.032    INFO    [5]    Found new programme requiring recording: Bones
10/4/2006 6:55:00 PM.032    VERBOSE    [5]    Changing to channel (GBPVR.Backend.Common.USBUIRTTunerController): 31
10/4/2006 6:55:00 PM.032    VERBOSE    [5]    Changing channels with USB-UIRT
10/4/2006 6:55:00 PM.032    VERBOSE    [5]    Sending: 0
10/4/2006 7:03:53 PM.125    INFO    [4]    GB-PVR Recording Service stopping
10/4/2006 7:03:54 PM.125    INFO    [4]    GB-PVR Recording Service shutdown complete
10/4/2006 7:03:54 PM.141    INFO    [2]    Finalize called

(taken from gbpvrrecordingservice.exe-2.log)

7:03pm was when i ran over to PVR and restarted the recording service because i didn't see the hdd light flickering like it usually is when it's recording, so i knew it wasn't recording. I checked the Recordings menu to see if it was in the pending and the status wasn't "recording". I checked the little "Recording Status" window by double clicking the G down by the clock, both tuners were sleeping so I restarted the service.

Yeah, it looks like its something to do with the USB-UIRT hanging. I assume you have it configured for three digits, and its hung of the first digit of '031' for changing to channel 31.

Do you know if you have latest USB-UIRT driver installed?

btw, when i restarted the service at 7:03pm on 10/4 i didn't look in the task manager to see if gbpvr recording service.exe was running... was in the middle of changing truck's oil when i had this sinking thought that my wife's shows weren't recording, glad i acted on that hunch. LOL

You could also try adding <RecycleUSBUIRT>true</RecycleUSBUIRT> in your config.xml. Which will cause it to recycle (close and reopen) the USB-UIRT before every use. It may help.
