I just tried upgrading to the latest version of GB-PVR but the installer won't work.

I can click through all the next buttons but when it comes time to actually do anything, the installer just stops and CPU usage goes to 100%.

I traced this back to the file:

"C:\Documents and Settings\My_Username\Local Settings\Temp\MSI*.tmp" (where * is a random combination of numbers/letters which changes each time I run the installer) which is run by parent process msiexec.exe

I tried installing in safe mode but got an error that I didn't have permission to install.

You might try looking at this thread. In particular, there is a way to run the installer that outputs a detail logfile which may hold some information as to why yours is failing.

Just tried the new 1.3.7 and it does exactly the same thing...

"Product: GB-PVR -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

I get that error both in logfile and in a dialog after I manually kill the process of:

C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Local Settings\Temp\MSIxx.tmp (where xx is a random pair of numbers/letters)

I have to kill said process because it hangs at 100% CPU and nothing happens.

Nothing else is of any use in the logfile, the only error it can detect is when I kill the MSIxx.tmp file process.

Try this - merge this regedit by double clicking it and giving it permission to run - this allows the Windows installer service to run in Safe Mode. Then reboot, right after the bios page comes up, start pressing F8 and select Safe Mode. Then try to run the installer.

Didn't work, I still get the same error.

I think this is a conflict/bug with one of Comodo's security products.

I currently run:

Comodo Memory Firewalll
Comodo BOClean
Comodo Firewall
Also use Avira AntiVir.

I installed all 4 on a completely different PC and tried running the installer for GBPVR. I got the exact same problem.

I have a feeling it's Memory firewall causing the problem, I will check that out and then send a report to Comodo, hopefully they can fix it.

Yes, it's an issue with Comodo Memory Firewall causing the 100% CPU usage. once I un-installed that, I was able to install the update for GB-PVR. After that I then reinstalled CMF.

I've posted this information on Comodo's forum and hopefully they'll look into it.

If you want to test this out yourself, go to http://www.comodo.com, install CMF and watch as it causes GB-PVR installer to fail.

Still not sure how you're supposed to get MSIs to install in safe mode, but since I was able to do it in normal boot I didn't bother.
