Many movies or divx come with different sizes or pixel aspect ratio.
Modern TVs let you adjust the aspect ratio of the presentation, from a narrow range of alternatives (mostly: 4/3, 16/9 and "auto"). But the "auto" feature is quite unuseful since it simply extends the video to the margin of the TV

On the contrary, it'd be VERY USEFUL if you could choose the aspect ratio of the movie before the transcoding process with ffdshow or ffmpeg.

My idea is to empower some remote button (or add 4 buttons to the GUI) to extend or narrow horizontally/vertically the width/height of the transcoded movie (it's just a matter of sending a different command line to the transcoder). No matter if pressing a button means restarting the movie (!)

This feature could be enabled or disabled via Configuration, in order not to overlap with the actual resizing feature, wich (on the other hand) doesn't work with MediaMVP.

You might want to take a look at the z-proces-plugin. I think it does this for you.
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.

Transcoding this way will never be more than just a workaround for the REAL problem:

Obvisiously Hauppauge doesn't care for people who use the MVP with an oldfashioned 4:3 TV. It seems their dongles are hardcoded to zoom/expand 16:9 material.

mvpmc (in emulation-mode) let's you choose your prefered the zoom-mode in config. So the video get's letterboxed the right way.

You're right, that ZProcess and ffmpeg in it's current state does not allow for dynamic apsect ratio...

You said that you wouldn't mind restarting the transcode into a new aspect ratio, as long as you could do it from the couch...

It got me thinking, and I think it's possible. Not in the short term as I'm flooded...

But I starting to think how it could be done...

Thanks for the idea...
