(Specs are below)

Just installed my new HD card. After rampy's suggestion to change to overlay (from VMR9), I'm getting decent HD picture now (not as sharp as VMR9, but less stutter). BUT NO AUDIO AT ALL!! Anyone got any ideas as to what might be wrong? I don't know what else to try!! Would I have a decent picture but no audio if signal strength was the issue?

FWIW, my plasma TV has "shared" audio inputs (RCA) for VGA & HDMI. My sound card output on computer is running to those inputs. Works fine for analog channels (PVR-150) using the HDMI cable, so my HD audio stream must be getting lost somewhere when using my VBox Cat's Eye 150 (right?).

Thanks!
Kevin T.

Specs:
Celeron 3Ghz, 512MB DDR2, two 160GB hard drives
NVidia GeForce 6200 (128MB/64-bit, vga/svideo/dvi out), NVidia PureVideo Decoder
Hauppauge PVR-150
VBox Cat's Eye 150 (DTA-150)
GBPVR
Akai 42" HD-capable (1080i) plasma tv (no internal tuners) -- connected via DVI->HDMI cable to my GeForce card

This is driving me nuts!!! I've got a great HD (OTA/ATSC) picture for 4-5 channels, but I can't get any audio!!

Sub, would the log files (and someone who knows what they're looking for, of course <g>) yield any useful information here? I have tried every possible setting available, and have unregistered and/or uninstalled every video/audio codec/filter/decoder on this computer other than the NVidia PureDecoder stuff. When I go into the PureDecoder audio settings (via Radlight Filter Mgr.), and choose calibrate, I hear a white noise sound when I click "Begin Test" -- so I'm assuming this is the correct test noise, and this means the Decoder can produce sound.

To repeat, my analog setup (using PVR-150) works great. I have a Creative SBLive sound card with 1/8" stereo adapter cable (to L/R RCA jacks) connected to my plasma TV (It's labeled "shared VGA/HDMI audio input"). After I installed my VBox Cat's Eye 150 HD tuner card (in addition to the PVR-150), I get picture but no audio whatsoever (on HD channels -- analog still works fine). So I'm now at the point of thinking this is a "stream processing" issue. That's why I ask if the logs might show anything useful.

Thanks for a great product, and thanks for any help you might be able to provide here. If logs would help, just let me know and I'll post them ASAP.

Thanks!

BTW, I'm using GBPVR v0.98.13b

Here are the logs from a simple test. I deleted the existing logs, then went into GBPVR Program Guide and selected "Watch" for one of my HD channels. Here are the resulting logs that were created. I'm assuming the "-native" log is the one with the pertinent stream processing information...

Thanks...

not sure if this is related to your problem or not but try reading this thread.
Maybe it'll help.

Interesting. Thanks for the link. Definitely sounds similar, although my log doesn't appear to have any errors (at least as far as I can tell).

Perhaps I should download BeyondTV 4.4 Trial and see if I get similar (no audio) results -- perhaps this will narrow down the potential cause of the issue...

Thanks again...

I don't record/play HD stuff through GBPVR, but i do watch downloaded HD content via MCE2005, and i found i needed to install AC3Filter to get audio working. I think i set it up to pass through DTS / DD and upconvert anything else to DD 3/2

Hope that helps.

Does audio work when you play HD from outside GBPVR? If not you can install fddshow to decode the ac3. (ac3filter works as well as mentioned above.)

I'll definitely install AC3Filter when I get home (from work) and see what happens (after all, it can't hurt!). thanks for the suggestion... (perhaps this will be obvious once I install it, but is there anything inside of GBPVR that I need to change in my settings for AC3Filter?)

As to other HD content, I am 99% sure that I have played one of Microsoft's downloadable demo HD movies (WMV/1080i) and had sound (on this same computer -- using WMP10). Notice there is 1% of uncertainty <g>. I'll double-check this also this evening.

Thanks to all who have responded -- it is much appreciated!

If you play a video file you didnt record yourself, do you get audio?

If you play one of your recoridngs in Windows Media Player, do you get audio?

EDIT: I posted this at the same time you were replying.

Sixgun, if you don't mind me asking -- what is the purpose of "set it up to pass through DTS / DD and upconvert anything else to DD 3/2"? Is that specific to your setup? Basically, I just want everything to go out my stereo Line Out (#1) on my SBLive sound card -- I'm not worried about any digital output (from the computer) at this point. At some point I might add my receiver to the mix, but for now I just want simple L/R stereo to my plasma TV.

I've installed AC3Filter (remotely) and can start GBPVR (I selected AC3Filter as the Audio Decoder). Not sure this is an accurate test (since I can't HEAR my computer here at work), but I'm watching the AC3Filter meters (remotely) and don't see any movement when I try to watch an HD show thru GBPVR.

(EDIT/UPDATE: When I watch the HD Demo clip [remotely] using WMP10, I *DO* see meter activity in AC3Filter)
(EDIT/UPDATE #2: Could it be??!!! I have gone back into GBPVR and tried an HD channel again and now I see AC3Filter meter activity!!! I only wish I had a remote microphone at home so I could really know this is working!!! I'll post an update tonight...)

(FINAL EDIT/UPDATE: IT WORKS!!!!!! 3 Cheers for AC3Filter!!! I am clueless as to why NVidia PureVideo Audio Decoder won't process the audio stream correctly, but at this point, I really don't care!! Thanks a million, SixGun!!)

Anyway, I guess my primary question was about how AC3Filter should be set up for my particular "simple" scenario.

Thanks again for your help...
