I wish I could configure/skin which buttons are available in the system plugin. It hurts the WAF when she (or me Big Grin ) chooses 'Shutdown' rather than 'Standby' (from MVP) so the machine doesn't wake for recordings the next day. Sad
What, me worry?

On a somewhat related - if tangential - note, I would like a feature in the system screen that displayed which remote button did what, and allowed you to edit it, even if it was just a note.

Instead of using the system button, you can create a custom button which run a batch script to hibernate the computer. I created a couple custom buttons and put everything in a folder shutdown (which produces sub-button). Just an alternative solution. Use the psshutdown from http://www.sysinternals.com which seems to be part of microsoft now.

I'll take a look at this, thanks!

I'm afraid that if you are referring to the green/blue/red/yellow buttons their usage changes depending on the plugin (in my skins I usually put a small descriptive legend at the bottom of the screen, but I think sub preferred not to do this on the blue skin as it made it too messy for his liking).

Some sort of general "help" screens accessible from the system plugin would perhaps be helpful for new users - maybe just a couple of introductory hints from the wiki could be made into viewable pages?

I found this reference in the WIKI http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manua...dReference
which lists not only the keyboard references but what the Hauppauge 150 remote does in each of the built in plug ins. I then learned how to modify the irremote.ini file so that the green power button will regain focus. I then handwrite on my 4 page print out what other things the keys do. For example, in the TV Guide, the printout correctly explains that the skip forward and back buttons move the guide forward and back day by day (a useful feature if you want to know what's on tomorrow at the same time) but the list doesn't show any button to move up and down the channels screen by screen instead of channel by channel. By accident I found out that the Blue and green buttons do just that!

If I were a programmer, maybe I could make a plugin that would bring up an screen display of what each button does in each program (that was editable in case the user changed the functions or accidentally found unexpected new ones) but because I am not, I am content with my paper instructions.

um IIRC the channel buttons are page up and down, so they will move a page of channels up or down.. I forget if this also works with the live guide.

Thanks for all the suggestions; I realize that the buttons may differ from plugin to plugin, and that is the root of my thoughts. Two words: WAF Factor. I use a universal remote with programmable buttons mapped to the coloured hauppauge buttons. This is confusing for the better half, and she gets frustrated.

A reference, along the lines of the wiki suggestion, with the ability to edit, say, 'Blue', to 'L1' (mapped button on the universal) would be helpful, especially on the system screen. Tried the printout thing, but she didn't like it.

Just an idea, and sorry if I didn't explain myself clearly.

so what are you trying to say???? you mapped the L1 button on your remote to the blue key? ok. so anything you would hit blue for you will now hit L1 for.

if you are talking about putting some notice in the plugin, what you can do is manually put the function of each button somewhere on the screen with the skin. all you have to do is add static text to the skin, somewhere there is free space on the screen, the same place for each plugin would probably be a good idea as well. as for any plugins with little pictures that have a blue button, just edit the image to a button with an L1 on it.

I have no idea if this is what you are asking about, but I hope this helps

Sorry - I'm not typically this obtuse or vague.

I thought about editing the skin myself, and I think that is what I am going to do. My suggestion - however impractical - was for the ability to map buttons from within the 'system' screen. Maybe even for each plugin.

Understand now?
