I have the OnAir USB HDTV-GT which tunes and displays HD (QAM & ATSC) great - no glitches in video and no sync issues. However - I cannot get it perform the same in GBPVR. I have tried all kinds of combinations of decoders and can get 'better' but still cannot come even close to the native app for the OnAir USB HDTV-GT. Any suggestions?

I wonder if the native app packages its own DirectShow filters? (GB-PVR tends to let DirectShow manage that stuff, subject to some modification through the Video Decoder and Audio Decoder configuration items.)

Can you record HD using the native app and play it with Windows Media Player? How does it look?

Yep - I can record .ts files w/ OnAir app and it looks amazing. I am not sure about 'DirectShow' filters, but the OnAir product comes with NVidia decoders.

Do files recorded in GB-PVR playback fine in Windows Media Player for you?

Actually I have not recorded anything w/ GBPVR since the display is so poor - I can try it this evening to see though.

Huh, if they're saving Transport Stream they must be doing very little with the incoming MPEG2 data. I think my native AVerTV app even managed to remux to MPEG2 files.

GB-PVR is set up to use the WinXP native multiplexer by default, which will give you .dvr-ms files. I believe that you can specify "Transport Stream" on the Miscellaneous config tab. Try it just to see if it makes any difference.

I tried playing with Transport Stream but found that the recorded files were enormous and audio/video tended to get out of sync easier than dvr-ms files.

This may be too much information, but you could try downloading the GSpot utility just to see what sort of filters DirectShow will use to play your files.

I think its an important for you to understand if its a recording or a playback problem.

Yeah the recorded files were pretty big (about a MB/sec) - but it worked and disk is cheap : ). I will try what you suggest to see, but my first concern is to get 'live' tv to display properly.

GB-PVR doesnt do the playback itself, so assuming you're using the same combination of video renderer and video decoders as in another app, then playback (or live tv) should be just as good.

Ok - so I need to find out what OnAir's app is using then...? The config for that app is very minimal. I imagine since it needs to work w/ only 1 device it can assume/default alot. I will try to find out.
