If I want to watch tv on one channel and record a show on a different channel do I have to have two directv boxes?

Yes.
The directv channel changer program works great.
However, not many PC's have two serial ports & I don't know if it works with USB adaptors.

I also don't know what it takes to control two different boxs.
I'm assuming it just takes using two instances of the app in either seperate folders or the same folders & just changing the name of one of the apps.

I've been trying to get the DirecTV channel changer to work with my system... what kind of interface are you using? (Serial->USB? I have the D40 model, I think) I've had no luck with the app posted in the wiki or the perl script posted in MythTV forums. I've been using the autotune feature to change the channel Smile, but it would be so sweet to have GBPVR do it for me. Thanks!

I forget what model directv unit I have I think it's a d10.
I'm using serial to mini-jack cable I built.
I keep the speed at 19,000 baud I think.
Faster speeds didn't work.

I also had to perform a hard reset on the box via the menu's in order to download the latest updates & get the serial port to work.
