I now have a system that utilizes the best analog tuner(NVIDIA DualTV), digital QAM support(OnAir HDTV-GT), with a fully integrated EPG/recording software(thanks to Sub's fantastic GBPVR software). The final key that would make this system complete(use your best Emperor Palpatine voice) would be extender support for HD recordings. I do have two MediaMVP's, so getting analog recordings to the rest of the house is easily accomplished under GBPVR, but is there any hope for some other device doing HD quality play? Has anyone gotten the MediaMVP to handle HD recordings? This is not an essential feature, but would certainly be icing on the cake, and make this system complete.

Not in its current incarnation. Anybody more familiar with the MVP bill of materials know if the decoder can handle HD? Network resources will also be taxed a lot more than current.

I'd try getting it to work via streaming to PC client first before worrying about HD-MVP.

It seems there are numerous devices out there that can pull HD content off my network and play it, like the PixelMagic product, Buffalo LinkTheater, or even an Xbox360, but none with the GBPVR interface to bring it all together.

Sub--are any of these types of devices something you could get to work if I bothered the manufacturers enough to send you one? I have seen other threads covering these kinds of devices---any that look particularly intriguing to you?

I am considering this device:

It has internet access so I could use it to access the enhanced web admin and get alot of the capabilities of GBPVR. Not as good looking but it should work perfectly.

According to that review, the Helios is mainly an upscaling DVD player. The reviewer couldn't get it to play HD Quicktime files, and doesn't really cover other HD formats. All my recorded HD is in DVR-MS files which the box won't recognize.

The Helios seems to have a lot of potential, but other than the upscaling DVD bit I think I can do a lot of the same things with my cheaper wireless SD-only MVP. The Helios hardware appears a lot higher in quality than the MVP, though.

My MVP only has an S-video out connector. Do the new MVPs support component?

No. Just got my wMVP a couple of months ago so I assume it is recent.

I guess if one has a main HTPC with all the tuners, and is only interested in viewing recorded files at the remote TVs, then one of these media player devices would be fine, despite the fact that they don't integrate directly with the GBPVR software.
