Found this article comparing decoders from Nvidia and ATI. It speaks specifically about DVD, but I expect it is relevant to all MPEG2 (?)

Purevideo comes up heavy on CPU and light on quality...

Core2-E2180, 1G RAM, 1Gb-5450 Silent, 2Tb +300g HDDs.
Three tuners: Twinhan DVB-T x 1, Hauppauge Nova 500T (dual)

DTB Digital SD + HD content (PAL-MPEG2-AC3).
Custom case made very quiet. Zalman CPU cooler.
Sits in rack with other HiFi.

ParaLED to show tuner activity.

Thanks, but you're late to the party. This is the third time I've seen this posted on the forums today.

Jeez that's a long article.

Can you use AVIVO on an nvidia card?

Because you can use purevideo on an ATI card.

good stuff indeed. why would you want to use purevideo with an ati card and vice versa? doen't really make sense, the most you get out of it is in the hardware, or have i misunderstood everything?

That's what I was thinking.
It's more of a hardware paired with software instead of just a software comparison.

actually, I think you can use the purevideo decoder on a ATI card and have hardware acceleration enabled (I think it does DXVA), and it will use AVIVO.

hmmm, link says "story has been removed"
probably a flamer or flawed testing...
man, can't trust anyone on the net anymore...lol
iirc, that data is about a year old...from when avivo first came out...
but not sure cuz it's gone...Smile
